Then, we read further down in the article that the people shooting each other are drug addicts, drug dealers & gang members. Lo and behold! The problem is criminals. Buying and selling illegal drugs is a notoriously violent, dangerous trade. And being in a street gang is could hardly be described as a safe environment that fosters love for your fellow man.
Predictably, people being responsible for their own safety is only mentioned at the end of the article (which many people never get to) after a direct question about personal safety was asked. That statement is naturally followed by a "police are out there protecting you" statement. Only the trained eye would note that the article asks people to call with information after the crime has already been committed; thus, only offering protection after the fact.

If youre not buying drugs, selling drugs, or hanging out with somebody thats doing one of those two things, your chance of being a victim of gun crime in Jacksonville is very low, says Director Tom Hackney.
He says many of the recent shootings do have a gang element as well.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
So all the low-life criminals are shooting one another.
Jacksonville certainly does have a gun problem.
They need more guns.
“More Guns;Less Crime”!!ConcealCarry BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, this article could have been written 20 years ago, except the number of shootings would have been higher.
Was thinking the same thing that you have to read this whole article to understand the situation. Open carry is the only solution - American cities have turned into the Serengeti and people need to act accordingly. Throw out the politicians who stop you from self-protection. Run for office yourself if you have to, but only if you want to win and stop the Lefties from running us all into the ground.
Hmmm. Sounds more like an illegal drug problem, or even criminals breaking the law as criminals are want to do problem rather than a “gun” problem to me.
When thousands are slaughtered on the highways, is that a “car” problem or a “driver” problem?
A gun crime issue? Yes, there is..NOT ENOUGH GUNS IN THE GOOD GUYS’ HANDS.
Then I began to notice gang graffiti in the middle class neighborhoods in the Mandarin and Baymeadows area.
I knew if I stayed there and had a family we would be moving to St. John's county for better schools.
Too bad to hear this about Jacksonville. It is a city with a lot of potential. Access to the beach. Moderate climate for north Florida.
Unfortunately it's on I-95....the drug highway of the east coast.
Last summer I read about a riot in Jax Beach. I wondered, was the sun too hot? Was the water too cold? What would cause a riot in a small beach town.
I know that (most of) the people here can guess the answer.
Meanwhile, in California: 4 Hurt In Apparent Gang-Related Stabbing In Simi Valley

***This article is an excellent example of how gun control rhetoric pervades our news media.***
It has been this way since Nov 22,1963.
Most of the thugs are convicted felons and by law should not have a gun. Just more evidence that if “Guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns”
Black thugs fighting for the drug traffic.
I’m fortunate in having a quite well behaved gun. It has not yet even come close to going on a rage filled crime spree like some less civilized guns do. To date, at least, my gun hasn’t tempted me to take up drugs, much less to suggest I sell them. My gun has steadfastly avoided all gang activity though I know the temptation must have been great. For all this, I’m relieved and thankful. I’ve been so lucky.
This will all be ignored when the hand wringing newspaper editorialists start.
It will all be about the senseless killings, the violence and it is all because of easy access to firearms. The bleat will be that more back ground checks, more restrictions and magazine limits are needed. It's a crisis!
Action must be taken immediately to save these poor children.
Makes ya wanna puke.
Describes Memphis...and what do the they have in common...DEMORAT controlled cities. We can kill the unborn at will, heaven forbid we put down a rabid prep.
