A gang-related drive-by shooting in the River North neighborhood left a man dead and three others wounded early Sunday morning, the four among at least 18 people shot since 11 a.m. Saturday.
The River North shooting happened in the 500 block of West Erie Street about 3:10 a.m. At least one person in a passing sedan opened fire after shouting gang slogans toward the four, who police say are also gang members.

Feds looking at Quinn anti-violence program
Heat surrounding Gov. Pat Quinns embattled $54 million anti-violence initiative intensified on Thursday after the disclosure that federal authorities have shown interest in how money flowed in and out of the program.
Sources with knowledge of the inquiry said investigators asked for vendor information, copies of contracts and copies of signed checks tied to the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative.
The U.S. Attorneys Office out of the Central District of Illinois asked the Illinois State Comptrollers office to turn over payment information from the NRI, which Quinn launched in 2010.
I cant disclose the nature of the request from law enforcement, its a legal issue,
Gang members killing gang members. Best way to solve the gang problem.
Since Obama became President, despite his pen and phone, over five hundred people have been slaughtered in Chicago. The Federal government has done virtually nothing.
500?
Isn’t it more like 1,800
300 per year x 5 years
If it's only 500 in Chicago in 5+ years, they would be overjoyed. They average 400-500 per year. (In 1974, they peaked at 970 murders. In 1994, they rose back up to 931.)
It has to be well over 2000 in Obama's presidential tenure.
(To be honest, Chicago averaging 450 since 2004 is pretty excellent. They averaged 770+ for the 3 decades before that.)
The neighborhoods of Washington Park, East Garfield Park, and especially Fuller Park have likely totalled 500 by themselves since 2008.
River North is a very good neighborhood. This is not far from the Loop, and one of the best areas of Chicago.
So many lost Treyvons. But the left glances over this where there’s a real problem.
I was going to make that point, too. The feral natives are expanding their territory.
Chicago, Ill. gun laws galore, but it doesn’t faze the bad guys. Let’s just call it “urban renewal”.
Why on earth would we want to Feds involved in the Chicago mess? That is the job of the local and state governments.
The Feds will only make this worse. This is always the results of any actions they take for any reason, anywhere.
Met a lady yesterday who was visited by the EPA and they decided to put her out of business for washing cars because the water did not run into state approved drainage. She has been washing cars there for over 20 years with no problems locally. Sounds like a former employee or a competitor decided to settle a score and used the Feds to do it.
The Feds turn everything they touch to crap and I would be ashamed to be employed by them.
I work a few blocks east of the shooting.
The thing is Chicago is still largely segregated. Many areas are very safe and there is a vibrant and safe nightlife scene. Other areas are like a war zone. A few recently gentrified areas can be kind of dicey. . .. which might be the case where this shooting took place.
Big Democrat cities = Margaret Sanger for adults.
Chicago is thoroughly infested with gangs. There are very, very places in Chicago where gangs do not have a distinct presence. Moreover, Mexican drug cartels pretty much run the city politically.
Chicago is akin to a third-world oligarchy. It’s a shame that the cesspool of Chicago so dominates the rest of the state. Excise Chicago and its political dominance and Illinois is a red state, with a lot of very fine, hard-working and freedom-loving people.
My son lives and works there. After a lifetime in Third World toilet bowl republics, and African bush wars, I’ve taught him all I know about survival in dangerous places (Charter member DPer’s). It’s only a matter of time, however, until he crosses paths with something evil. I never lay my head down each night, without first saying a most fervent prayer for his continued safety.
My son and his wife have a lovely place in River North. I seriously don’t even want to go visit them. At all.
River North is still a nice area, even with this recent shooting.
Like the other poster said, Chicago is split very sharply between “safe” and “not safe” areas. River North is clearly very safe. It may be even below the national average for violent crime.
Personally, I hate the Chicago area much more for the fact that most people are more than just unfriendly. Whenever I leave to go to Wisconsin or Indiana or some other state people are always so nice to me and I am constantly shocked that humanity is not so evil.
Took me quite a while but, eventually, I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.
Extreme post-partum abortion for thugs.
Exactly!
