Common Sense Calls for Repeal of Second Amendment
Seattle Times ^ | 1 May 2014 | Jerry Large

Posted on 05/01/2014 4:49:26 PM PDT by Publius

I don’t believe the Second Amendment was ever intended to support the kind of gun craziness we contend with today, but since it’s always used to ward off any common-sense gun reforms, maybe we ought to just fix the Constitution and be done with it.

Yes, I know the odds against that are immense, but maybe we could start by nibbling away at the idea that the Constitution is infallible or that the founders had the answers to everything. They were smart men but neither perfect nor prescient.

One of the ways they showed how smart they were, was that they made a document that could be updated when it needed to be, and today it needs to be on this issue.

We’ve had another of those disturbing clusters of shootings in Seattle the past week, and gun violence continues to injure and kill across the country in public, and frequently private, ways. Most gun deaths are suicides.

But some Americans embrace their guns even more tightly even as the headlines call out for sanity. You know what I’m talking about.

Because the dictator jobs are all filled already in those other countries, and our wannabe's would get skinned alive and shot if they applied for them.

Right, but is there a DISadvantage to the plan?

Mister Large (I’m guessing the large isn’t in the upper story), you’re free to believe whatever you want to believe, no matter how foolish.

Putting that belief into action, well...feel free to put your life where your mouth is at any time.

I would like to point out how narrow his vision is, in that he’s completely forgetting that there is the Fifth Amendment protecting people from being deprived of life, liberty and property without due process (if I already own a gun, the government can’t just make me give it up), the Ninth Amendment protecting rights not specifically listed, and the Tenth Amendment preventing the government from having any power not specifically assigned to it (even though they violate that about every second).

Common Sense Calls for Repeal of Second Amendment

Common sense compels informed adult citizens to demand that ignoramuses without a nodding acquaintance with history not be allowed to make asinine assertions on national forums...

In the kingdom of morons, anything that can be said will be said!

Yeah, it was the Forehead who said, “Stroke of the pen, law of the land. Kinda cool.”

Somebody quoting the First Rapist spelled "foreskin" wrong...

I honestly don’t care if they do repeal the second amendment. It really means very little. It doesn’t give me the right to bear arms; it merely recognizes my inherent right to bear arms. After repeal, come and get my gun, I dare them.

I have a common sense amendment. An amendment to outlaw marxists. Or how about an amendment to leagalize hunting lawyers and journalists. Yes, I think both would be in order.

Old joke...

First man strikes up a conversation with a second man and says, "Do you believe in the 1st amendment?"

The second man says, "Of course! I believe that everyone should have the right to freely speak their mind."

The first man then asks, "What do you think about the 2nd amendment?"

The second man says, "Oh, no... I hate guns. I don't think anyone should have one."

The first man pulls out his gun and says, "Then shut the &@%* up!"

-PJ

For those of you in Rio Linda, this joke means that if you want to assert your rights, you better be prepared to fight for them.

Go ahead and repeal the 2nd, is doesn’t matter. A firearm is an object and is therefore property, that makes the 13th amendment the key to this debate. The only two classes people that can legally be compelled to justify or ask permission to peaceably own, acquire, carry, or use their own property are minor children and slaves. Force the anti-rights crowd to defend laws that are in fact slave codes.

BobL said: "But if he does manage to change the Constitution, then we conservatives should ACCEPT that, for he played by the rules, and defeated us."

Not so.

A repeal of the Second Amendment would make the government today no different than that which sent occupying troops to Boston who attempted to disarm the people on April 19th, 1775. Would anybody really want that?

The original thirteen states insisted on a Bill of Rights, which includes the Second Amendment. Without it, there is no union and no obligation for any state or any citizen to be bound by the Constitution.

Even repealing the Second Amendment would not accomplish what the author of the article wants. The Constitution defines a federal government which has limited enumerated powers. Without a clause which specifically allows the government to ban weapons, it has no such power.

Just exactly how sensible would an amendment be which stated, "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall be freely infringed by Congress". What sane people would enact such a thing?

The right to keep and bear arms is part of the right to life and liberty. Government infringement of that right has proceeded long enough and must be reversed.

“Common Sense.” ROTFL! The meaning of that sure....

Regarding this idiot definition of 'common sense', this is another one of those situation where all I have to do is say: 'read the tag line'.
