I’m refusing to respond because your arguments aren’t serious. Waterboarding by friendlies as a training exercise, in controlled conditions, is in no sense relevant to what we’re discussing here, which is torture. You know this. Your posts to me are frivolous and irrelevant.
Catholic Democrats are going to do what they’re going to do. I’m more worried about the folks nominally on our side. Yeah, she could have beat up on Barry and his would-be successors just as well without going there. If she makes it into office, she can beat up on the terrorists just as well without going there. What’s more likely to bring her around? Saying it that way or saying it the way Dreher did? I’d suggest the former. Meet her where she is.

I don’t know how you can so sterilize the mass of interrogations in the training exercises all over the world and ignore the water-boarding of many 10s of thousands of Americans and NATO troops, I almost lost a friend to one interrogation as he was close to death from being suffocated by an NBC bag, when the officer in charge of the training exercise for the MI interrogators, came in and saved him.
Those three high ranking terrorists would have been under more controlled conditions and expertise and even value, than most any other American who is being water-boarded, is going to see.

Once the CIA stopped advertising in the major newspapers for terrorists to report their whereabouts and stop by for questioning, everything went to hell.
Now they just arrest the suspects after they committed an act.......What happens then, I could care less and waterboarding is the least of my wishes...........

They never objected to any of that stuff when it was being committed by their favorite foreign strongmen (when they assumed all such people were anti-Israel). I don't know how much of it is sheer left wing propaganda, but every single anti-Communist ruler/dictator in history has been accused of torture. I didn't hear any "palaeos" condemning them.

I think there may be some confusion due to definitions that don't distingish between maiming and torture.
The main element of maiming, would be the permanent injury or loss of function of a limb, organ or system, without therapeutic purpose. It could even be done painlessly, e.g. putting someone under anesthesia and then removing a healthy arm. This would be maiming without torture.
On the other hand, the main element of torture is the directly-intended, deliberate and aforethought infliction of extreme pain and fear, whether as a means or as an end. It can even be done without physical harm. Giving drugs which cause a transient panic state, and committing rape with no injury, and, yeah, water-boarding, would be torture without maiming.
The intention in torture as "enhanced interrogation," is to deprive the subject of rational control of his behavior by creating abnormal mental states induced by pain and fear. It doesn't even have to be a realistic fear. For instance, causing someone to hallucinate and convincing him that the horrors he experienced will recur and recur until he cooperates... that's torture.
This is the kind of stuff that gave Soviet psychiatric facilities a bad name. It's morally wrong.
His opinions of the torture accusations against various Catholic strongmen in Latin America have never been recorded. But then, at one time all such figures regarded the Israelis as being the ultimate bosses of International Communism and the Arabs as their fellow anti-Communists. Some people still believe it.
Ironically, I have always been against torture for a very practical reason: if you hurt someone badly enough you can get them to say anything in order to get you to stop, and any such "confession" is useless.
The main issue in any such case is of course Divine Law, and while I don't know what it is in that case, I doubt it approves.
I'm not a fan of torture, but I despise "palaeo" hypocrisy on the subject. And other subjects (hawks vs. doves, eg).
