LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced Tuesday Clippers owner Donald Sterling will be suspended for life and fined $2.5 million in response to the racist remarks he allegedly made in a recorded audio clip.
Silver spoke to the press at 11 a.m. news conference from New York, stating he will do everything in my power to force the sale of the Clippers.
The hateful opinions voiced by that man are those of Mr. Sterling. The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful. That they came from an NBA owner only heightens the damage and my personal outrage, Silver said. I am banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers association or the NBA. Mr. Sterling may not attend any NBA games or practices, he may not be present at any Clippers facility, and he may not participate in any business or decisions involving the team.

Ban Shaq! Fair is Fair.
I don’t think Magic has any interest in buying the Clips, nor the capital.
I believe he would have to sell his interest in the Dodgers if he were to buy the Clips since they are in the same market, even though they are different sports but I’m not 100% on that.
What has been left unsaid is...why was Sterling so upset that his GF posed and posted a pic on Instagram with Magic Johnson? She has been posing with other black athletes. Sterling has been photgraphed in the front row of games with black people.
What is it that set him off about Magic Johnson? What is left unsaid here? Even on the recording he seemed to skirt around the issue.
Could it related to HIV? Could that be something that Sterling was concerned about?
And become even more reviled? I remember vividly that story from ESPN the Magazine (June 1, 2009 issue—I still have that issue) and it detailed the shocking level of virulent racism and misogyny practiced by one Donald L. Sterling.
In short, Sterling brought this on all by himself.

Did that issue mention the numerous awards the NCAAP gave to Don Sterling?
Wait a minute, there was on article on here about a kid recording a bully and a teacher being abusive toward him who now finds himself facing criminal charges for recording someone without their permission. How is this different?
His girlfriend is 1/2 black.
Article 35, which appears to be meant for player and not owners. Silver may want to "force a sale" of the Clippers, but it is still up to Sterling to sell.
I’m guessing the NAACP is SOL on getting anymore $$ from Stirling.
To be accurate, she is half Mexican and half Black.
Generally the law does not allow illegal ‘fruit’.
It would be interesting to see a morals clause exercised on the basis of an illegal invasion of privacy.
What’s their plan on collecting the $2.5MM if they ban him for life? IIRC, the league has to OK team sales, so I guess they could refuse to OK the sale till he pays the fine.
"Her mother was Mexcan, and her daddy was the Ace of Spades."
NBA is not the game it was in the 90s. Will Mr. Silver ban the Knicks executive for saying that blacks should start a black league. If he does, I’ll say the NBA was right, but I think there’s a double standard.
Obama is half too and he is black.
I believe a great American once said “I may disagree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to be punished for saying it. “
And, this grief is what 80 year old men get for fooling around with twenty-something age women.
NTTAWWT.
Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!!
What kind of people attend these games anyway? More than boring.
What if Stirling says to hell with everyone and just lets the Clippers founder to the point they’re a zero $ worth team.
It’s not like he’s going to be homeless because he loses what he has invested in them.
I couldn’t care less about Sterling, but I’m totally sick of the “black thang”.
True...I’d rather see a baseball game or a hockey game.
