Okay, guys. We were just talking about this at work. Full Disclosure: I’m a black guy.
With that said, I JUST heard these guys tell me the entire contents of the phone call. I’ll just throw it out there. Why would a ‘racist’ even own an NBA team? And lemme get this straight: “You can sleep with black guys, just don’t bring them to the game...” ??
When it comes to racism, I’ve seen a lot worse examples that that.
jimjohn, I do not care if you are a black guy.
I am not viewing this event through that lens, I am viewing it through a Maoist lens.
The public persecution and humiliation has been going on a long time, just more subtly than when Mao’s Red Guard first came into existence. But the template is the same...to fundamentally transform the country. Whether is shouts of racism, homophobia, war on women, a Christian business refusing to bake wedding cakes.... or the CEO of Mozilla being forced to resign over contributions to a political position.
Holy Smokes Batman, do we not see the history train heading into that long dark Winston Tunnel?
Yes, anyone over the age of 50 has heard a lot worse spew forth from the mouths of racists. But they needed someone to make an example of...and make it stick. Put the fear of god in him and us.
I am sorry, but today in my journal of life, today is a turning point day. A day when many still refuse to see where we are going.
Okay, fair enough. But here’s my take on this situation: ‘racism’ is attributing just about any (behavioral) trait to someone’s race. Anthropologically, it’s a rather dumb position to advocate. However, we don’t see a lot of great black swimmers, for example, despite Africa having more coastline than anywhere else. Fine, whatever.
The problem with what Sterling revealed in his conversation is that as an NBA franchise owner, he was asserting a profound sense of white superiority which has and which should have no place in Western, Christian civilization. It’s like he sees himself as the superior type, ‘owning’ and ‘using’ and being entertained by the finest black athletes. Almost like the owner of a great racehorse, castigating his mistress for bringing the thoroughbred to a garden party as a guest.
Like I saw Charles Barkley suggesting yesterday, Sterling really goes beyond mere racism.
“Why would a racist even own an NBA team?”
because it’s profitable to do so?
