Johnson won the GOP nomination for KY Secretary of State the following year in 2011.
I certainly think he could have beaten Greyson in a 1-on-1 matchup for the U.S. Senate, but he wasn’t a “celebrity” like Rand so Rand Paul’s overhyped announcement and 24/7 “LIBERTY CANDIDATE!!” internet buzz from the Paulbots sucked all the air out of the room, and Johnson dropped out of the Senate race shortly afterwards (his name remained on the ballot).
