Sevierville U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander said Thursday that even if Republicans retake the Senate this year, it is going to be very divided. Itll take a bipartisan coalition to pass anything.
Last year, Tennessee tea party and conservative groups criticized Alexander in an open letter, telling him that the country can no longer afford bipartisanship and compromise.
I learned to count in the Maryville city schools, the Tennessee Republican said. We have 45 Republicans, and it takes 60 senators to pass anything thats important. So you have to work with people on the other side to get a result. And I think thats whats expected of me. Im conservative, but I think my job is to solve problems and get results.
Alexander, who is running for reelection, spoke during a visit to The Mountain Press. His challengers in the August primary include state Rep. Joe Carr (R-Lascassas) and Memphis physician George Flinn.

It may take 60 votes to pass a bill into law, but this only applies if the bill is likeable by President Obama and thereby avoids his veto.
However, it only takes 41 votes to keep bad legislation from passing. Having 45 Republicans does not mean that we have 41 conservative votes. Senator Alexander has not shown himself sufficiently willing to be one of those 41 votes.
Somebody stick a plaid shirt into this guy’s mouth.

For those in Rio Linda, “bipartisanship” is when the Republicans drop their drawers and bend over for the DemocRATS.
Lamar voted for Sonia Sotomayor.
For some of the judges Democrats will only need Lamar’s vote to ram through Obama’s nominees.
Old Lamar needs to go.
Only got the seat because party regulars and W wanted to do a favor for Poppy as Lamar had been in Poppy's cabinet and needed a job as senator. So the party dumped the conservative and anointed Lamar.
Bye bye Lamar; hope the Tea Party beats you.
PS: Lamar is a huge sponsor and proponent of the sales tax for online transactions. In his confused mind, it is fair to tax the working peasants for online purchases. Fair? Why not get rid of retail sales taxes altogether Lamar?!
Yhup he is bipartisan he worked at the bipartisan amnesty bill designed tomake the Dems a permananat political majority. He is really backstabber.

We would rather not have anything passed than to have you “pass anything” Reid, Schumer, and Soetoro put in front of you, Jerk. We don’t like your “results”.
Go back to Maryville and count your fingers and toes there, because you don’t seem to grasp that you’re bankrupting us.
Which, like the Easter Bunny, is something that doesn't exist.
The word “Bipartisan” means that some larger-than-usual deception is being carried out. - George Carlin
People in TN except for 1974 have always believed in Lamar!, always will hence, but will never know why.
RINOs never die young enough.
ADVANCE CONSERVATISM, DAMNIT!!
Somebody tell Lamar that if you have a “D” after your name you are the enemy. Bi-partisan means the same thing as compromise. You don’t get your way.
There are no “bipartisan” democrats. Sen. Alexander and his fellow establishment repubs are fools.
