Rand Paul to Meet Top Romney Donors in Boston
national review ^ | March 18, 2014

Posted on 04/18/2014 9:52:49 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

Rand Paul will do his best to charm a group Mitt Romney’s top donors next week at an event facilitated by Romney finance director Spencer Zwick.

The Friday luncheon will take place in Boston at the offices of Zwick’s private-equity firm, Solamere Capital, according to a source familiar with the event. Romney’s eldest son Tagg is also a managing partner at the firm, and Romney is the executive chairman.

The event is yet another signal that Paul is preparing a for a serious presidential bid in 2016. Two years before the GOP primary, Paul is attempting to branch out beyond his libertarian-leaning base, and the ability to tap some of the establishment donors who helped Romney raise over $1 billion in 2012 will be critical to that effort.

Aren't you jumping the gun a bit? Who says he has to change his message to appeal to these guys? Reagan went to Leftist country and appealed to them with his message of less government and more opportunity. Dang, man, at least see what he has to say first. He certainly doesn't come across to me like he's going to change his message and I think his message of less government and more free market enterprise, like Reagan's, could appeal to many different kinds of voters. He's the only candidate I've heard talk intelligently about how the free market IS THE alternative to socialism.

If he does turn Left (I doubt he will), fine, look elsewhere. Unlike some around here, I'm not in love with any particular politician (Sarah comes close though), I'm in love with freedom. Our focus should be on our common #1 enemy, big government, and we should unite around that cause and find those who are most faithful to it.

Those who don't are part of the problem IMO.

Huh? He turned left when he backed Mitch the Tea Party Crusher. He turned left when he started playing word games with amnesty. how much MORE left does this fraud have to turn before people start thinking he may not be cloned from Reagan?

So far this guy has been the most outspoken proponent of much less government and much more free market. Reagan, as you may not know, was also for amnesty. Who cares? Amnesty. No amnesty. It doesn’t matter if your freedoms and livelihood have been taken away by this gorilla government. Who cares if Rand is like Reagan of not? I couldn’t care less. Man, I hope the Right gets their collective minds around fighting our #1 enemy: big government.

First, Reagan admitted his mistake and regretted it. Second what do you think Big Govt is exactly? I’m curious. Because Rand in up to his arse in the GOP establishment version of it.

Third, if you don’t think Amnesty is a big issue, you are on the wrong website. Amnesty is the freaking RESULT of big government.

I don't care about Rand or the man in the moon. I care about taking down at least 80% of this 6$ trillion government and replacing it with the free market economy. I want whoever will do that. So far, it looks like that's what Rand wants to do more than the others (except maybe for Palin, but she never runs).

If you've got someone with more fire in his belly about this than Rand, good. I don't care who it is. So far, to me, Rand looks better than the rest because of his stand against big government, our #1 enemy.

No wonder we are in a 6 (if only) trillion mess. People like you think the people that caused it are the solution.

Better? Palin, Cruz, Me, 80% of FR. Pick one. I cannot believe that there are pople on this site that can post what you have here with a straight face and think no one notices.

The guy is backing the very man who is at the top of the war being waged on conservative social, economic and moral values, programs and ideas and you think thats the dude for the job.

God help us all if this is the state of the movement as a whole.

You’re saying Rand is a cause of our $6 trillion government? How so?

Im saying a couple things. If you think we are a mere 6T in debt, you need to do a lot more reading.

I am also saying, and his actions to date show beyond arguement, that he is BACKING the very people that got us into this mess. Mitch for starters.

Now he goes crawling to Romneys funding sources, the very people who push for a country destroying AMNESTY for cheap labor, and you don’t think that their cash comes at the cost of his support for their demands? Really?

Mitch and Co helped give Obama a blank check. the one that ran up the bil you are upset about. They gave him his choices in America destroying appointments and judges largely unopposed. They did not TRY to stop him. And Rand backs the minority leader that OFTEN sides with liberal desires.

Yup. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Why not just join the Romney 2016 team. Or perhaps start a Bhoner for President exploratory committee? He is already there. Won’t cost America any more cash...until he goes back to work.

Rand has no fire in his belly, apart from his ambition to seize power on behalf of the Klan, which is the same outfit his dad supported right along, even when he pretended to support Ronald Reagan.

Like his old man, Rand mimicks others, generally with a twist, in order to ride along on this or that temporary wave, holding back a little to see if it will be safe to do so. Like his old man, he and his army of lemmings deny that he said what he really just said.

Neither of them want to cut spending, or cut the budget, or know much of anything about anything. They are demagogues.

That’s the original, apparently a lot of garage bands of that era recorded or just performed localized versions with the local river and local town names. :’)

First of all, I said the government, not the debt, is budgeted for around 6$ trillion. THAT'S the big problem. If you don't get that, you need to do some more reading.

The debt isn't the biggest issue or problem - it's government spending. As Milton Friedman pointed out, the focus should be on cutting government spending. If you focus on the debt, you're not focused directly on the issue - big government - and may unwittingly allow a forced "balanced budget" to do what the Left hungers for: raised taxes - a killer.

Secondly, there's a lot of debate on the Right about amnesty. But amnesty and illegals are not our #1 problem or threat to our freedom - the gorilla government is. There's a lot of issues and candidates the Right disagrees on. Again, the Right has to decide what is the most important issue and unite behind that issue and whoever best supports it - I don't care if it's Donald Duck. Otherwise the Right will have played right into the Left's hands and as far as the electoral process goes there's little hope.

So then as I see it, the only other option is the limited Convention of States proposed by the Citizens for Self-Governance and if that fails, possible state nullification and steps toward state financial independence from the federal government.

Please direct me to the text of the budget the current government is operating under. Oh yea...there isn’t one. so your 6T figure is invalid.

The only debate on amnesty is if you side with liberals on the issue or not. Amnesty is binary. Either / Or. Yes or no.

Conservatives say no. What say you?

Total government spending is $6 trillion. Total federal government 2015 budget is around $3.9 trillion. Maybe you’re OK with that. Well say good-bye to America, amnesty or no amnesty.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a citizen of America, not Israel. If Israel thrives while America becomes a third world toilet, that does the American people no good. Saying that Adelson is alright because he is an Israeli nationalist while advocating immigration policies that he knows will destroy America — policies that are the exact opposite of what he advocates for Israel — is not an endorsement of Adelson. If anything, Adelson’s positions on Israel show that he understands precisely the importance of demographics in any nation’s survival.

One this to consider is that Bundy was not able to finance a lawyer so he represented his own case. My guess is that did not bring up the relevant issues.

I think we are both holding to our differing views concerning Sheldon Adelson and I won't be able to persuade you to reconsider any more than you will be able to do likewise with me. Still you may want to search Free Republic posts for this phrase:

Sheldon Adelson is a great man and patriot.

No, it wasn't me. Instead those sentiments came from one of the foremost of FReepers and one who unquestionably loves God, America and Conservatism. (I would normally ping that individual but she's got a lot going on right now).
