Moscow (AFP) - The Kremlin is preparing a new culture policy for Russia focusing on its distinctive civilisation and traditional values, which observers say has political ends amid Moscow's standoff with the West.
At the end of four hours of questions Thursday in his annual call-in, President Vladimir Putin waxed philosophical on what it means to be Russian.

Just as long as they let their hockey players stay in the NHL.
I don’t think they can make that kind of dough in the homeland.
As the saying goes, nature abhors a vacuum. With the West declaring all-out war on traditional morality, it’s all too easy for the Russians to step in and pick up the mantle of the other side.
One of the better outcomes of the fall of Soviet communism.
Now if those players could just pay income taxes at Putin’s rates they’d be in heaven...
Swing and Rock did it.
Today, American music can be used only for torture of captured terrorists.
Ruskies learned the lesson well.
A succinct definition of conservative values. The EU is a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.
I'm of the opinion, right or wrong, that this is why Russia is a rising nation and the entire West is in decline.
Putin may yet have his revenge for the fall of the Soviet Empire.
And, I don't think it's all cynical on the part of Russia. I've met a lot of Russian immigrants in CA and they are uniformly religious. And, they value and preserve their culture.
Russia is not just going to surrender 1500 years of shared cultural experience and yield to historically flawed and destructive foreign cultural influences.
Especially after 70 years in the wilderness.
Interesting commentary.
Who would have thought 30 yrs ago that most patriots would feel more affinity for the head of Russia vs POTUS Baraq?
Barry has his fans too. Just check all the Russia threads.
Ever heard the term, "Chinese money" used for accounting entries that represent money changing hands within the company as opposed to real money?
"That kind of dough" ain't going to be all that much better than rubles if King Barry manages to keep this country paying through the nose for energy by finishing off the coal industry and shipping new found NG off to the poor little Europeans.
Sell the world coal if we're too stupid to use it, but keep everything else in this country and energy prices will go so low that companies will move factories back here because the higher wage costs will be more than offset by the lower energy costs.
Oddly enough, though, when we trip over a huge amount of NG here in the US, whoa, "we better ship it to Europe in order to keep Putin in line".

The Russian economy now as in 1980—like the Saudi economy now and in 1980 — is entirely driven by oil. Kill the price of oil and the Russians do down.
The way Reagan defeated the Russians was to convince the Saudis in 1980 to overproduce oil and thereby drive its price down to the point where the russians could no longer pay their bills.
The saudis could do that at the time because their production costs were almost nothing and they had immense surplus capacity.
neither of those is the case anymore.
Traditional values like pedophilia and kiddie porn?
You go Russia
I honestly don't know if you're saying that about Russia or the West.
It’s actual legal in Russia
You got a point there
Russians that I know they love our rock music
They pretty cultured people
“As the saying goes, nature abhors a vacuum. With the West declaring all-out war on traditional morality, its all too easy for the Russians to step in and pick up the mantle of the other side.”
Quite frankly, I’m glad someone is doing it.
Who would have thought 30 years ago the the leader of Russia would have more sympathy for Christianity and traditional views on life and the family than our own POTUS would?
Not praising Putin, but he wants to industrial. Why in the world would adopt the culture of deindustrialization? The US, the EU, these are cultures of deindustrialization and dependancy.
For all that’s made of being rich in natural resources it’s by far better to be industrialized. Take for example Germany, they can buy the low margin rail cars of oil and iron ore from Russia...turn them into BMW’s and Siemens equipment to sell in Moscow at a high margin. The is why Germany will slowly align more and more with Russia, much better trade partner than any EU state.
