Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.”
The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth.
The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform.
“I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, that we as a faculty and staff and student body, as an administration, if we 10 years from now are as white as we are today, we will have failed as a university,” said Bruce Shepard, president of WWU, in a 2012 address.
The statements and actions of administrators suggest a preoccupation with skin color at WWU. In his address, Shepard made sure to discuss the racial make up of his new hires.
The university is also putting staff members through diversity and sensitivity training on topics such as “heterosexual privilege,” and “language privilege.” Such sessions were made voluntary after some people complained.

Uhhhhh!!! Why would anyone attend an openly racist college like this one? This is the weirdest story I have heard yet.
There are some pretty decent colleges and universities left in this country. Do your homework and attend the institutions that still believe in preparing you for a career.
This school is a joke. You won’t succeed attending a sham educational institution and your hard earned money or loans will have been spent for nothing except the unemployment line.
Maybe I’m racist or xenophobic or sexists for noticing but the “historically black” and ‘women’s colleges’ were the biggest losers when the Ivies and highly competitive all-male and (mostly) white colleges/universities opened up to and set quotas for African Americans and women.
Blacks who might have gone to Howard are at Harvard; women who might have gone to Bryn Mawr are at Princeton. The very top students in those categories don’t even apply to those formerly black or women’s colleges any more.
WWU is not likely to get the cream of the gender or racial crop to apply much less attend, regardless of “strategies” they devise.

Why doesn’t WWU just prohibit whites from admission? What’s the big deal? Eric Holder will not object.

Everything you say is exactly what is happening except - the graduates of a certain color won’t need to be qualified to work in the “real” world if the left has their way - the affirmative action hand outs will continue after graduation - the people with the correct skin color will be placed into government low level positions (think administering healthcare, for example) and their loans will be forgiven. The government will then be even more of a disaster than ever as far as efficiency and competency.
Lest I sound racist, I do not mean to - the people of all colors who are quailified for college certainly include all races - it is the idea that we have quotas based on skin color rather than ability that is absurd.
Western Washington University wants to be a black college like Gambling or Alabama A&M...
If they can discriminate against whitey, they can (and eventually will) discriminate against you.This is not a vote against whitey...it's a vote for the approval of discrimination.
