Judas.
In sum, Jesus makes himself and his authority the issue. The leaders are astute enough to see the claim. So they ask, "Are you then the Son of God?" They sense the depth of what Jesus is claiming--that Jesus uniquely shares God's rule and power.
Jesus' answer is both a positive reply and a type of circumlocution; in effect, he says, "I will not deny it, but I would mean it a little differently from the way you mean it."
So Jesus says, "You say that I am" (Blass and Debrunner 1961:par. 441.3; Catchpole 1970:226; Stein 1992:571). The NIV gives the force of this indirect reply: "You are right in saying I am."
So the judgment is rendered against Jesus. "Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips."

Then you WILL surely receive nothing.
HAve you conferred with a history teacher from your school?
And today, He is still asking...
Who does A_Perfect_Lady say the Son of Man is?
Whatever He said; it WAS enough for His accusers.
Like the famous quote made about pornography, "I know it when I see it...."
"Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips."
LIKEWISE...
When we use PARTIAL scripture we are in deep trouble.
I get the feeling that this thread illustrates why cops hate going on a ‘domestic’ run.
When arriving at the scene, and attempting to straighten out the ones fighting, they’ll then unite and pounce on him(her?) for messin’ in THEIR business!
So you judge JESUS as to what his motives were and what He SHOULD have said.
No lightning will get you today; for I suspect that MANY of us have also been exactly where you are today: wondering just what to make of the whole thing.
Though you are asking us vexing questions; it is sharpening our knowledge and indicates, at least to me; that you DO have a thirst for more.
I hope you travel the road to Damascus soon...
HE was BEATEN quite severely as well - probably still bloody and dirty.
(Maybe looking at a NAKED fella in the dim light would tend to cloud one's vision; too.)
Or maybe a hungry soul; looking for good reasons to DIS-believe the things that the world has led her to accept.
We followers tend to get upset when we perceive that our Lord has been 'insulted'.
I'm sure our Lord is used to it.
It's MY 'belief' that is insulted by others when they don't readily accept the best offer to ever come down the pike.
What the record shows what some Jews thought who Jesus was:
(Notice Jesus refers to himself as the Son of man)
Matthew 16:13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?
14 So they said, Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.
15 He said to them, But who do you say that I am?
16 Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18
So the Jews of the time were divided as to who they thought he was.
I hope, if you ever are on a jury, that the judge's instructions to you (the jury) as it's about to begin deliberation of the 'evidence', will make a good impression.
I've just watched this morning, on the Today show, that FACT that eyewitnesses to a crime are WRONG about 40% of the time!
14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.[b] 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:
17 And in the last days it shall be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams;
18 even on my male servants[c] and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
20 the sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood,
before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.
21 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
22 Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know 23 this Jesus,[d] delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25 For David says concerning him,
I saw the Lord always before me,
for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;
26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
my flesh also will dwell in hope.
27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades,
or let your Holy One see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will make me full of gladness with your presence.
29 Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,
The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit at my right hand,
35 until I make your enemies your footstool.
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brothers, what shall we do? 38 And Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself. 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation. 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[e] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Something about New Testement accounts that you can't accept?
He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.
1 Cor 15.4-6
Nailed it!
No, I mean what was the criteria that one had to meet to be eligible? Like, for instance, think about running for President. You must be 35. You must be a citizen. Think of the controversy surrounding the question of where Obama was born.
No. If they thought he had supernatural power from God, they would have been afraid of the repercussions had they killed him. Many on here suggest Pilates was afraid to convict him for this reason. Had they already been so afraid, appearing to them after death would have been all it took to finish off their doubts.
And yet Jesus said...
When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities.
2 Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples 3 and said to him, Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another? 4 And Jesus answered them, Go and tell John what you hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers[a] are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. 6 And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.
and...
John 10:22-26
22 Then came the Feast of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was in the temple area walking in Solomon's Colonnade. 24 The Jews gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." 25 Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father's name speak for me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.
