Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz threw his support behind T.W. Shannon in Oklahoma's GOP senate primary, The Hill reported.
Shannon is a former state House Speaker.
This was the first primary endorsement made by Cruz, who has a strong following among tea party-aligned Republicans. The endorsement allows him to honor his pledge not to back insurgents in primaries involving Senate GOP colleagues, The Washington Post reported.
Shannon is in an open primary. A special election in November will fill the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Tom Coburn two years before his term ends in 2016.
Cruz plans to attend an April 24 campaign rally for Shannon in Tulsa. Shannon also has the backing of 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee. All three are expected to attend the Tulsa event, according to The Hill.
The tea party-aligned Senate Conservatives Fund is also backing Shannon.
In a statement released by Shannon's office, Cruz said Shannon "is a strong constitutional conservative."
Rep. James Lankford, a two-term GOP congressman whose district includes Oklahoma City, is regarded as the candidate favored by the establishment wing of the party. He also has the endorsement of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, Roll Call reported.
A March poll conducted by a firm aligned with Shannon shows Lankford with a shrinking lead at 37 percent, Shannon with 28 percent, and Randy Brogdon, a former state senator Randy Brogdon garnering 7 percent, the Post reported.
Shannon is an African American whose heritage also includes Chickasaw ancestry, according to The Hill.
The primary is set for June 24. The winner is expected to be victorious on Nov. 4 because Oklahoma leans heavily Republican.

EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT!
(TORA! TORA! TORA!)
The elitist say they know how to win minority votes such as amnesty to supposedly win the Hispanic vote. But yet, they support a white guy over a well qualified black guy with Indian blood.....
Are there any independent polls? You really have to take polls from the candidates campaigns with a grain of salt.
Tw Shannon is a stand up guy just like Ted Cruz he has my vote. Cannot wait till he comes to own little town will be out to support him 100%
(I am pinging now even though this is more about Ted Cruz.I have to go to work and it's hard to ping from my Android)
Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Sarah Palin are having an Event for T.W. Shannon on Apirl 24th.
Three of our Very Best about to Make Four of our Very Best.
GO SARAH! GO TED! GO MIKE LEE! GO SHANNON!
Bump!
Awesome group, are they on tour?
The ptb would be pathetic, except they're still running things. What they want is a dark skinned hispanic with native blood who has signed the behind the scenes pledge to backstab constitutional conservatives before even unpacking in DC.
They must be very proud of Senators Flake and Ayotte.
Too bad he didn’t feel so-inclined in the Texas primary involving Cornyn. That we’re stuck with that POS for another 6 years is disgusting. It’s the first true negative I’ve been able to attach to Cruz.
But the Three Best on our Side getting together is certainly awesome!
Bump
Which would be the drummer? Lol
This is apparently the only endorsement he has made in the primaries
Yes it is awesome. The “A” Team!

Who was he going to endorse? That field didn’t offer a viable alternative. Maybe some good people, but not the political organization and money to knock off a high-ranking incumbent.
Cruz won because he out performed the insider candidate. None of these guys came close. An endorsement probably would have been wasted.
I would love to go see all of them thx for posting this
