To: Tolerance Sucks Rocks
I'm not defending any racist mail or e-mail in this case, but Hank Aaron really wandered off the reservation on this one with that idiotic and bizarre statement. It's really a sad end to a long life in the public eye for a sports star. Aaron comes across as not only a bitter, angry old A-hole with that statement, but an ignorant fool, too.

To paraphrase Laura Ingraham ... Shut up and play ball.

But since Aaron is too old to do that, he ought to just go away. I suspect a lot of his resentment is based on his awareness that he has nothing to offer the baseball world anymore, and that he probably had no place in Major League Baseball once his playing career ended.

As a white kid aged 9-15 in the late 50s and early 60s, Hank Aaron was my first sports hero. His recent comments felt like a sucker punch. If he provoked racist retorts, that’s too bad and should not have happened, but he himself started it with his slanderous, sloppy, stupid, racist generalization.
