The Armed Rebellion on a Nevada Cattle Ranch Could Be Just the Start (As biased as you might think)
Time Magazine ^ | April 15, 2014 | Alex Altman

The Feds may have set a troubling precedent by allowing a Nevada rancher and his band of armed followers to win a standoff with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The rancher refused to pay more than $1 million in fines for letting his cows graze on government land

It could have been a catastrophe. For several days last week, hundreds of angry protesters faced off with federal workers on an arid ranch near Bunkerville, Nev. Militiamen squatted among the sagebrush and crouched on a highway overpass, cradling guns and issuing barely veiled threats at the government officials massed behind makeshift barricades. The specter of a violent standoff hung over the high desert.

The hair-trigger tension seemed at odds with the arcane origins of the dispute. Twenty years ago, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) decided to clear privately owned cattle off this patch of public land to protect the endangered Mojave Desert tortoise. Dozens of ranchers left. Cliven Bundy stayed.

Bundy, 68, has refused to recognize federal authority over the land, or to pay the feds for allowing his cattle to graze there. Those accumulated fees and fines now total more than $1 million, according to the government. Armed with fresh court orders, the government moved last week to impound a few hundred of the rancher’s cows.

Bundy balked, and the far right-wing media sounded a clarion call for his cause, casting the standoff as a flashpoint in a broader struggle against federal oppression. A cavalry of patriots arrived, bearing weapons and a seemingly bottomless grudge against the government....

Can you imagine the frothing at the mouth that Piers Morgan would be doing if he was still at CNN? The liberals cannot comprehend anyone standing up to the federal government and claiming their individual rights and freedoms.

I saw BLM agents armed with machine guns and attack dogs tying to intimidate private citizens.

not quite sure who you are quoting (I am assuming it is from the article which I refuse to read since it is Time after all).

The only magazines I read are either technical journals and Georgia Backroads

It is the same fees and fines that our tyrannical government has levied against Hobby Lobby for refusing to provide certain forms of birth control to their employees. That refusal would have cost them $1.3 million in daily fines had they not received a suspension of those fines by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals—thanks to the The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty who is representing them.

Bundy “would probably rather be a martyr than a profitable rancher,” says Shea, the former BLM director. “Eventually, you have to draw the line. We go through these sad episodes where fanaticism has to be brought under legal control. And inevitably, somebody is killed.”

I see. So Shea thinks Bundy is a bum, a martyr, a fanactic, a sad pawn of the Koch Brothers. Alrighty then. Now we know where the Left stands on anyone who dares to challenge the private garrisons.

If the grazing permits were retired in 1998 by the state of Nevada, who bought said permits by the BLM, how in blazes does Bundy owe the BLM a dang anything?

Yup, kinda what I saw too. And the son being tazed when attempting to find out who the supervisor was so that he could talk to him.

BLM brownshirts should be ashamed of themselves. But then am sure too ignorant to even think they might have been in the wrong. Sure they thinking same way as SS agents were in 1939.

"jus doin my job man. Dont know nuthin of constitution, ancestry of this country. But by gosh look at me, i get carry around my automatic to protect them damn turtles from white trash.

Alex needs to read this article: http://freedomoutpost.com/2014/04/bundy-ranch-crisis-causes-us-ask-actually-owns-americas-land/.

The US government land grab has been going on for some time — Bundy’s ranch has been there since well before the FEDs land grab began.

They are trying to steal Bundy’s ranch and he won’t back down.

These are, indeed, the times that try men’s soul!

It was from the article. You really should take the time to at least read the article intro. if you have enough interest and time to post a response. But I agree with you, Time is birdcage liner. Hedley Lamarr photo: Hedley Lamarr HarveyCormanasHedleyLamarr.png Amid some acrimony, BLM major domo Kornishe and his right hand man Love go back to the drawing board to organize their next Gold Butte land theft attempt.

Yeah, he's like 68 yr old. What better time in life to stand up?

When you say ‘intro’ do you mean more than what was posted as part of the original thread? I can’t stomach any more than that. The verbiage is prejudicial at a minimum and distorts facts to make it sound like Bundy is insane and a scofflaw.

I am tired of the argument that this is BLM land. Not all of Nevada is BLM land. Moreover the US government has broken the agreement (the treaty if you will) that was originally given to the ranchers to take care of the land. Because a state joins the union does not mandate that all the land in that state belongs to the feds....and yet that argument is exactly being made by some of the leftie press and Reid.

"They were there just to trim some grass . . ."

Maybe even partake in some desert wacky tobaccy. Maybe all that pot being grown on government land has led these BLM cadets to become pot heads. That's the only think I can think of that would transform friendly BLM rangers into blood-thirsty, gun-totting, jack-boot zombies. I just don't know what else could turn them into something like that. /sarc.

The metrosexuals at Time just can’t wrap their designer shoes around the concept, “If you want my land, well, you’re just gonna have to kill me.” It’s the Code of the West.

You nailed it. That's the way it is around these parts.

.........A cavalry of patriots arrived, bearing weapons and a seemingly bottomless grudge against the government....

I don’t know who “Alex” is, and am too lazy to look it up, but my mind wanders thinking he is likely some young punk with about as much “real life” experience as his leader Mr. Zero.

So, here goes a waste of breath. “Alex, your right about a “bottomless grudge against the government”.

However it (the bottomless grudge) is against “THIS GOVERNMENT” not all government and it is founded upon the LAWLESSNESS of this government aided and abetted and in partnership with liberals like you. If ever the shooting does get started, as we barely missed in Bunkerville, I hope some of the MSM liberals like you are right in the middle of it all. Then, no question, those liberals caught up in the crossfire WILL receive some much needed REAL LIFE experience.

My aging mother said of age sixty-something, “there comes a point where you realize that if you don’t do what you want to do right now, you’re never going to do it.”

Bundy knows that if he doesn’t make his stand right now, he’ll never get another chance, will regret it, and nobody else will do it either.

Ya see, the first bureaucrat that raises a stink in a case like this, needs a baseball bat upside the head.

EPA, BLM, IRS, HHS,.....Just to let them know that there’s a price for their utter stupidity. That would slow down some of this nonsense.

And....even if it resulted in a ban on baseball bats....there are an infinite number of substitutes, so as to make the ban irrelevant.
