A new online poll found that Americans just are not interested in the the World Cup, which is the world's top sporting event.
According to the poll, "two in three Americans do not plan to follow this year's tournament," only "7 percent said they anticipated following it closely," 86 percent of Americans "said they either know nothing or only a little bit about the World Cup, and more than two-thirds did not know Brazil is the 2014 host nation."

A third of Americans ARE interested?
This bodes poorly for our future.

The “beautiful game” - its going to have a global audience in excess of a billion.
My pick? Brazil. If they don’t win it, I will be shocked.

Will there be any soccer hooligans there?

Maybe we should change the name to the Obama Cup, and mandate that everyone select a team to root for or pay a penalty to the government in the form of a “nonparticipation” tax. We could require minimum fan apparel purchases for your selected team, and provide government subsidies to help the poor purchase their required minimum allotment of fan apparel.

I’m surprised that one in three IS interested.
But I bet one in five would say “yes” to any question that starts, “Are you interested in...”
Just sayin’

And Brietbart isn't helping a bit.
How's this for a revised first sentence, emphasis mine:
A new online poll found that Americans just are not interested in the the World Cup, which is the world's top soccer sporting event.

They’re passionate about their football in Brazil. It won three times: 1950, 1962 and 1970 - gaining permanent possession of the Jules Rimet Cup. They have the best football team in the world. The only teams from Europe that have a chance are Italy and Germany.
