U.S. should send troops to quell Ukraine crisis
washingtonpost.com ^ | April 15, 2014 | James Jeffrey

Despite much diplomatic effort, the situation in Ukraine worsens. A coordinated Russian campaign, including an invasion threat, special operations destabilization in eastern Ukraine patterned on the Crimea model, and warnings of gas cutoffs document ever more clearly Vladimir Putin’s aim to cripple the Ukrainian government and control much or even all of this strategically vital European country.

Oh, a little more on the illustrious Ben Bradlee, form executive editor of WaPo...

from wikipedia article on him:

“In 1952 Bradlee joined the staff of the Office of U.S. Information and Educational Exchange (USIE), the embassy’s propaganda unit. USIE produced films, magazines, research, speeches, and news items for use by the CIA throughout Europe. USIE (later known as USIA) also controlled the Voice of America, a means of disseminating pro-American “cultural information” worldwide. While at the USIE, according to a Justice Department memo from an assistant U.S. attorney in the Rosenberg Trial, Bradlee was helping the CIA manage European propaganda regarding the spying conviction and execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg on June 19, 1953.

Bradlee was officially employed by USIE until 1953, when he began working for Newsweek. While based in France, Bradlee divorced his first wife and married Antoinette Pinchot. At the time of the marriage, Antoinette’s sister, Mary Pinchot Meyer, was married to Cord Meyer, a key figure in Operation Mockingbird, a CIA program to influence the media. Antoinette Bradlee was also a close friend of Cicely d’Autremont, who was married to James Jesus Angleton. Bradlee worked closely with Angleton in Paris. At the time, Angleton was liaison for all Allied intelligence in Europe. His deputy was Richard Ober, a fellow student with Bradlee at Harvard University.[citation needed]

In 1957, while working as a reporter for Newsweek, Bradlee created controversy when he interviewed members of the FLN. They were Algerian guerrillas who were in rebellion against the French government at the time. According to Deborah Davis, author of Katharine the Great about Katharine Graham, this had all the “earmarks of an intelligence operation”. As a result of these interviews, Bradlee was given an expulsion order from France. The order was later suspended and finally repealed.[citation needed]”

Capital idea! So which population center in the Continental US gets vaporized first after NATO starts shooting down planes and killing troops belonging to a nuclear armed country?
Did Afghanistan get nuked?

“What exactly is the national SECURITY threat to the US?”

There’s none. But it’s too late now.

Obama now owns the problem because he helped overthrow the democratically elected pro-russian government.

He’s an idiot with too much power who was probably bored and decided to play with the CIA. Now this may well escalate into a nuclear exchange.

Man, they all become war-hawks when they like the political leanings of the current President. How convenient...

So why risk our military guys when a strong leader here could do the job with banking and trade restrictions?

Drown the world's petro markets with a flood of American oil and natural gas.

Ah but the Obamacon is a relatively new hybrid. It is the what happens when the receptive neocon chickenhawk is serviced by Obammunist policy studs.

This isn’t going to happen; we’re too weak even if we wanted to do this. I expect symbolic displays of support with good photos. We can do real things to help Ukraine, but it wont’ be with our army.

Nope, we should help the Ukrainians train for low-level resistance, and to plant a nice juicy bomb on Putin’s limo. Neither will happen, because Zero is on his side. Thanks Berlin_Freeper.

“I’m missing the justification for this.”

Obama wants to save the Ukranian LGBT community from Putin.

We could put Russia on the North Korea Pariah State list, and they would fold in about 3 weeks.

Except for the fact that Russia actually produces something that the world depends on. Europe would fold in a week without Russian natural gas.

Send the BLM, and the whatever army the Social Security department has that needs all the ammo they have amassed.

We kill two birds with one stone...and the Russian aren’t either of the two birds.

Yeah, and the guys in charge back then had some familiarity with with the horrors of global warfare and understood what direct confrontation meant. For the past 20 years this country’s foreign policy has been run by a bunch of draft dodging chicken hawks. Oh, and back then NATO wasn’t blowing up planes and troops on Russia’s front doorstep. They’re a little touchy about that things like that.

Oh hell no times infinity! My son left yesterday for Afghanistan. For the 20 plus hour flight they were told to bring snacks because they didn’t have the funds to feed them. I am beyond incensed. The gov. can piss away billions of dollars on nothing but can’t give my boy a decent meal on his way to a war zone.

Wrong, wrong, and hell wrong! Let the European Union deal with their sorry butts for a change. Deal us out.

I don't want to see one more Troop come back dead or maimed from a war that is NO threat to us. Let the aspiring Soviet Union do their imperialistic thing, they still understand the MAD concept. Even under Obambi, we have enough nuclear warheads/missles to destroy them and probably the planet. Last I read, we have 1500 nuclear warheads on different platforms. Send them and the Soviets send theirs and the planet is gone.

I give Aftganiscrap all of 3 years before the Taliban or some other tribal a-holes re-constitute their totalitarian control. NO MORE AMERICAN LIVES OR TREASURE FOR THESE A-HOLES!
