I hope you get to see the next one. It’s so amazing to look at the real thing. I was fortunate this time that our skies were clear enough to see it and Mars. It was quite a site. But, like you said, at least there’s the internet when the weather doesn’t cooperate. That’s better than not seeing it at all.
Cool! I’ll have to look for it. It was more fun to listen to it than to watch any of the movies. It’s like reading a book . . . leaves the visuals to one’s imagination.

Let there be an eclipse (lunar or solar), a fabulous meteor shower, etc. and we get rain. My dad got me interested in the skies when I was young and it stuck. If it was clear here, I’d be watching this through my telescope. As it is, I’m stuck watching it on the computer screen. pooey!”

No kidding, Radu! Same here, in Western Quebec. Tonight, full of clouds; I was in bed and asleep but woke up and realized it was about time for the eclipse, and my son was interested, so I got my camera and big rubber boots and went outside. We’re in the middle of the forest, so it has to be right overhead to see anything even if it’s clear, which it wasn’t.
The sky was light and a reddish color off to the east, but I didn’t see the moon.
The only time I’ve ever seen a celestial event was some meteor shower about 15 years ago, in August, in Denver-there was a big, clear sky.
And once I saw the space shuttle. I think! :)
When I didn’t see the moon I came back in and decided to have cereal because I was hungry after waiting up all night for the pinkish/orangeish sky. LOL!
Oh well. I’m glad so many people got to see such a wonderful sight. A real gift from the heavens... :

Whew! The weather isn’t only knocking me out of watching the eclipse outside. It’s messing with our internet connection. We have a satellite ISP and the signal keeps disappearing. Now I can’t even watch the eclipse online!!! AAAAAAUUUUUGHGGGGHHHH!!
The night of the last good eclipse that was visible from here was a clear one so I was able to see that one. It’s easy to understand how events such as this freaked out our ancient ancestors.

My parents only had a radio when I was little (in the ‘50s) and maybe that’s why I still enjoy listening to things like WotW and such. It makes one use their imagination - - something kids don’t seem to do nowadays.
Just think of all the idiots that would be zapped while taking selfies.
Though it’s nice to live in a wooded area like you do, it can be a drag when you want to watch celestial events. Your clouds must not have been as thick as ours since you could see that reddish glow.
We’re on a farm and our driveway, .2 of a mile long, runs through between two fields. I usually take a pillow and an old blanket halfway out the driveway and lie down to watch what’s going on. No crick in the neck that way. LOL! It’s wide open and perfect for watching meteor showers.
I’m up all night every night so it’s no problem staying awake for these events. Our uncooperative weather is the only problem, like tonight. At least it was online and I got to see a bit of it before our ISP went screwy. I’m giving up on it and hoping they have their issues straightened out by the time I wake up.
I noticed the same thing. Amazing.
We lucked out in So. Cal. and got clear skies. Cool, though, so I watched the later part on a stream out of an observatory in Prescott, AZ.
In 1978, Jeff Wayne composed a rock-operaish version of War of the Worlds. It’s a remarkable work, with Richard Burton doing the narration, and Justin Hayward. It’s still available on CD, and on youtube. Here’s a taste.

Burton’s narration gives me the same chills I had listening to the recording of the original broadcast.

Our luck was so rotten that our clouds not only dumped rain all night but dumped snow right after sunrise! And we were I the 70s yesterday. *siiiiiigh*
