I guess I’m not getting the race thing you specified. Do you believe ex-pats only come in the color white?

That is easy. In KY we say Ver-sails. Everybody knows that. If you want a hard one try Louisville. Louie-ville. Looaville. And many others.I find it hard to believe you're a KY native. There is only one correct pronunciation of Louisville (as my KY wife told me): "Lou-vle"

I have a friend that was with Sajak when they were both on AFVN radio. They used to talk..said Pat was and still is a nice guy. Around ten years ago, the "traveling" Wheel of Fortune show was in town and the local paper sent a reporter over to interview Sajak.
All I remember is Pat's answer to the "favorite book" question: "Atlas Shrugged".

He might be able to pronounce it just fine but not when hes looking at it. It didn't seem like he knew the word, although I see what you mean and I can imagine myself blurting out "Ah CHILL eez", even though I would never say, "Ah CHILL eez heel", for example.
This is an unusual word for Wheel of Fortune, which usually has "common phrases". I guess this was supposed to be some kind of college edition.

It's Ver-SAILS in Indiana as well. We also have a DU-boys County (Dubois), an OR-leens (Orleans, and a VIN-sinz (Vincennes).
The French have been mispronouncing these names for centuries. I am proud of my ancestors for cleaning up the confusion.

Why do I have to qualify my reaction? Nope, on second thought I'm not answering this further--not worth it.

My wife is a former winner - 27 years ago. She really wishes she could go back on, shes a LOT better now, and she was darn good then. Come to think about it... that would make for a great series of shows using "Former Winners" pitted against one another.

Having lived in Kentucky for several years, I got used to Ver-sales, but Ee-toil (Étoile—beautiful French word for “star”) was just too much of a cringe factor.

Interesting you point out “Achilles”. Because I listen to audio books, and when listening to all the Ender’s Game books, they switch around their narrators, and one of them pronounces the name “a-sheel”, rather than “ack-ill-ees” (sorry I don’t have proper notation there). So at first, we’re wondering who this new character is, until we figure out it is just a different pronunciation.

Send that idea into Pat, would ya?

You know Pat had a short-lived talk/interview on Sunday nights on FNC, right?
It was far too intelligent and non-short-attention-span-oriented to be successful, unfortunately.
He is a conservative.

Who doesn't learn about Achilles in high school English? Or about the Achilles heel. He probably is somewhat illiterate.

We had an awesome trip to Sydney. Daytime show, you didn’t get a car, and this was back in the day when you didn’t get cash, you had to spend your money on prizes from showcases.
