But since President Obama worries more about the threat of terrorists' improvised nuclear device going off in a major American city than anything Russia can throw at us, I was wondering if the government had deigned to share with us citizens any tips for, you know, surviving something their own intelligence points to as the likeliest unlikely Black Swan event.
Well, no. And yes.
No — very few people in Washington, D.C., who work for the government have any idea what they would do if a 10-kiloton nuclear device exploded at the intersection of 16th and K streets.
You can always look to movies to figure this stuff out, right? And in movies, since nuclear radiation is BAD, the thing to do is to get away from it as quickly as possible. In the movies, electronics are fried, too, the response is chaotic, and hundreds of thousands of people die.
Interestingly enough, though, the government has done quite a bit of work to figure out what exactly would happen if a suitcase nuke — which, I know, doesn't really exist, but, for the sake of this example, bear with me — actually did explode a few blocks from the White House.

Don’t think of it as a game. Think of it as a window into the future.... a likely quite accurate one if you take away the mutants.

You are probably right, after all we all saw what kind of resistance the people of Boston put up after the Boston bombing.
When heavy armed personnel showed up at peoples doors and tried to force them from their homes we all remember the resistance the people put up.
Bostonians sent them running with their tails between their legs didn’t they?
I have been in your situation. Once taking care of a 29 yo wife that died of cancer leaving me a single parent, and later caring for my grandmother who made it to 94. Both cases involved unplanned big moves and financial devastation I had to bust ass to recover from.
My grandmother probably had 20 years added to her life because of that move. So I am not talking hypothetical.
If you believe the SHTF is coming soon, then you have a responsibility to move and live. If you don’t, as I said...good luck to you.
1. Pray for the innocent, the children, and folks who are just trying to make a living serving the filth.
2. Hope that they did it while a budget resolution was required to stave off a government shutdown - this would require everyone to be in town, and all staffs at work.
3. Go somewhere where nobody can see you and thank God for bringing down the fire needed to ablate the polluted womb of government completely co-opted by evil.
4. Start thinking in terms of your Governor being the highest ranking gov’t official, and your Sherriff being more powerful than he ever thought he was going to be in his lifetime.
5. Tell your employer to stop withholding income taxes, and stop paying Social Security. He can just added to your check, and stop matching the Social Security - he can keep that as a bonus for holding out as long as it took to defeat the regime. A peace dividend.
6. Neighborhood watch meetings just became more important than they had before.
7. Break out the Walker Blue, the pre 1959 Cuban cigars, and celebrate in the back yard.
A pox on the large statist party comprised of two companies of actors trying to convince the country they have their interests at heart, when it is their wallets they cherish most.
Unfortunately, my kid lives in the D.C. area.
Too many people easily get duped into falling into the left wing traps that are set.
If there was a terrorist attack in DC, NY or any other left wing stronghold, the left would be more than happy to take these comments and claim they prove the “right wing extremist” support the terrorist.
They do that regardless and people believe it regardless. Past time to stop caring and start pushing back.
One way is to stop funding their propaganda outlets via our cable bill...

That could be a long span of time, since I fully expect his term will never end. Before 2016, he’ll use that pen that he has to do away with term limits.

That’s pretty small. Physical limits apply, so significantly smaller may not be possible. Minimum is about 5 pounds of material, plus a foot separating two halves, plus compressive actuators and shielding - about 50lbs in a small duffel bag.

That would be my reaction too. About a half-mile from where I live is a very liberal couple. I base that upon the political signs they put up in their yard in election years. It would give me pleasure to know that if I'm dead as a result of a terror attack that this dumb-a@@ administration could have prevented, so are they.
