MOSCOW (AP) — More than 10,000 people turned out in Moscow on Sunday for an anti-Kremlin rally to denounce Russian state television's news coverage, particularly of the crisis in neighboring Ukraine.
In promoting the Kremlin line, state television has portrayed the new pro-Western government in Ukraine as a "fascist junta" under the control of the U.S. government and determined to oppress Russian speakers in eastern Ukraine. The broadcasts have taken on a harsh anti-American tone.
Some of those who took part in the demonstration, called a "March of Truth," carried blue and yellow Ukrainian flags. One woman, wearing a traditional Ukrainian wreath of flowers on her head, held up a sign with President Vladimir Putin's picture and the words: "Stop lying."
Among those who spoke to the crowd was Andrei Zubov, a history professor who was fired from one of Moscow's most prestigious universities last month after criticizing Russia's military intervention in Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula. Zubov argued against the annexation of Crimea by comparing it with Nazi Germany's annexation of Austria on the eve of World War II. . .

Its a minority viewpoint in Russia. Then again, Russia is a different country from the Soviet Union that repressed dissent as a matter of policy.
President Putin is popular enough that he can afford to let the opposition blow off steam.
Civil War brewing and Obama’s administration is largely responsible because they put their energies into socialized medicine instead of foreign affairs.
Putin will now go and hide.

Russia: some things never change.
Russian active measures have made it difficult for some to tell what is what.
The only thing the demonstrators had going for them was the sheer numbers. If it was much less, they would have all been arrested. There is no free speech in Russia. Now that Russia has lost its leverage with the Chinese on gas pricing and the demonstrations in Russia are attracting greater numbers, Putin’s life has gotten a lot more complicated.
He came up from nowhere fast. There’s a real chance the syndicate may find something else for him to do, like retire. Gazprom selling gas below cost to the Chinese won’t set well.
I was in Moscow when it seemed like MILLIONS were on the Ring Road.

It takes guts to protest in Moscow. It’s not a free country.

Armed, anonymous thugs holding a public referendum for annexing parts of another nation to their own country = Bad.
Protestors against government corruption and foreign influence in their government = Good.
