I cringe whenever I see a conservative use the term ‘GAY.” Once they control the language, they control the whole conversation. I use people with same sex attraction. It’s awkward but accurate.
I still use the term homosexual. From what I hear, the term homosexual is falling into disuse, and is expected to be archaic, as is the term Negro when referring to black people.
The homosexuals co-opted the word gay. For a time, gay had a double meaning, but now gay means only homosexual. Nobody uses gay according to the dictionary definition anymore, precisely because it’s been co-opted.
Where does it say that gay people co-opted the word “gay” for themselves? It could have been put upon them, along with words like “fag” etc. Just saying, I don’t know that they actually hijacked the word for themselves. The rainbow as a symbol of gay pride on the other hand....
As one who enjoyed God's Blessings during a 40+ year gay marriage to my lovely wife, whom I met while we both were at a Christian college, I'm outraged that the homosexual lobby has co-opted a perfectly fine word. My wife has since passed but I know that she's with the Lord. I remember the day when "...don we now our gay apparel" didn't cause smirks when "Deck the Halls" was sung.
The homosexuals have ruined so much of the America I remember from the 1950s. Back then, we called them deviants and sodomites. Those are the proper terms and what I still use to characterize them. As I see it, those miserable, twisted creatures are anything but gay.
