Russian channels caught lying

Despite the vast amounts Russia is spending on anti-Ukrainian propaganda, the TV channels Rossiya 1 and NTV skimped on actors – and got caught.

Rossiya 1 shows a person they call Andriy Petkov and call him a supporter of federalism who was beaten up by “radicals”.

NTV shows the same man, even adds a caption with the same name, yet has a quite different story, Petkov, they claim, was certainly injured, but is himself a “mercenary” who has made a “sensational confession” – that he, a resident of Germany brought 50 people, “all residents of Western Europe” to Ukraine to carry out violent acts.

I trust Russian media almost as much as I trust American media. Well, as much. Maybe a little more.

Naaa. I don't trust either, Both are instruments of their governments.

While many in American media distort facts by biased reporting, there is usually some truth under that. Russian media does not report at all. Normal modus operandi for them is to take any fact and turn it inside-out upside-down. Sometimes the lie is so obvious that even our domestic Putin fan club has nothing to say in support.

You mean like MSNBC? They seek only to divide and ruin this great (once great) nation!

When American media fakes-up a story (not so blatantly as the Russians, but still), you don’t see people on FR shrugging their shoulders and saying, “But Rossiya 1, NTV, RIA Novosti.”

Oh yes.

Pravda was always such a humorous name for the Soviet/Russian news media. Well, I thought it was humorous.

While I appreciate that moral relativism is alive and well on FR, there still exists room to exercise some judgment.

It used to be that conservatives loved America despite its sins. We only wanted to make it better. It seems Obama has caused many to despair to the point where all they have for America is scorn. Like a successful enemy, he’s broken their will to fight. They seem to wallow in self-pity and some prefer to swallow Putin’s blatant lies as if Putin isn’t akin to Obama in his desires to harm America.

When did we ever read Russian news sources with any other mind set? I don't remember a time for doing that. Do you?

It seems Obama

Obama isn't the problem....it's the people who voted for him that are the problem, and it's only going to get worse, demographics is destiny.

Interesting view point. Maybe you're right.

Hard to visualize conservatives in such flat despair when they know that eight years is the MAX for "damage" time. They are usually made of sterner stuff.
Perhaps conservatives see no one in their own camp who can win the next presidency and Congress. THAT would definitely be more cause for despair.

Come on. People voted that idiot Carter into office too. Stay positive. Reread Whittaker Chambers’s book WITNESS and see how bleak he thought things were. Yet we survived the Soviets, and we survived Carter. There is much wrong in the US and much to be done. But we’re not in perpetual decline unless we give up. A growing economy is the best way to destroy the statist solutions that allegedly gives demographics an advantage. After eight years of Obama choking the economy, anyone willing to turn the productive spirit of Americans loose again will be able to gain a majority to turn things around.

On the other hand:

It’s not possible that the same guy made up two different stories?

Also interesting: the Ukrainian government is banning foreign journalists? You’d think they’d want journalists in to refute the Russian propaganda. No-one bans journalists unless they don’t want people to know what’s REALLY going in.

Sounds exactly like our media. Remember the Zimmerman case? Ever hear of a politician called Obama and all the reporting on him?
