SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. - South Carolina lawmakers are once again looking critically at University of South Carolina Upstate for gay themed programs on campus.
Several SC Senators voted against USC Trustees up for re-election last week.
USC Upstate has now cancelled the presentation "How to become a lesbian in 10 days or less." It is part of a symposium scheduled for this week on LGBT issues.
Administrators said it had become a distraction, mainly because it was misunderstood.
"It was a performance art piece that was really all about a message of tolerance," Dr. John Masterson, a vice chancellor, said.
Masterson said he'd like to invite lawmakers to the campus to see that there are programs for a variety of viewpoints.
"This is a university and if we're going to broaden minds we have to welcome any and all point of view," he said.
The SC House already voted to cut $17,000 from USC Upstate because of the assignment of required reading of a book with gay themes.
Sen. Mike Fair, (R) Greenville, disagrees with the promotion of gay behavior.
"I don't serve that population well by saying what you're doing is normal, it's healthy. It is not," Fair said.

"Its part of an agenda that's more about indoctrination than education and it's concerning to a lot of folks in Spartanburg and really around the state," Bright said.
He said he planned to introduce amendments to the state budget to make further cuts to USC Upstate."
Lee Bright is running against Lindsey Graham.
“How to become a lesbian in 10 days or less.”
Looks like they are dropping the phony “born gay” canard.
That got me too. I was surprised that liberals would allow such a presentation about how to become a lesbian. Because the liberal line is that they are born that way, so how could anyone talk about becoming one????
“”This is a university and if we’re going to broaden minds we have to welcome any and all point of view,” he said. “
So the NAMBLA and people pushing bestiality have to be welcome too? BS!
Unless Jesus comes back soon, every type of perversion known to mankind will be accepted in the near future. IMHO

This is the Bible Belt but I bet the University isn’t so welcoming to Christian points of view.
Most commonsense conservatives surrounding me think that USC-Spartanburg shoul **WELL EXCUUUUSE ME!: USC-Upstate should be closed long enough to lay off ALL THE HOITY-TOITY FACULTY AND STAFF, spray the place with industrial-strength Lysol thrice, and re-open in the Autumn merged with Spartanburg Community College and Greenville Tech. Then there should be NO liberal arts courses, no OPINION OF THE TENURED PROFESSOR COURSES offered using State funds. There’s Converse, Wofford, Spartanburg Methodist, Furman, and North Greenville (plenty enough) for that sort of studying.

And here I thought a university was there to help the student learn a marketable skill that would help them earn a living! What was I thinking?

Isn’t that interesting...
California just passed a law making it a crime to counsel a person against being a homosexual... But these morons want to teach a course on how to take a straight person and turn them into homosexuals, which I though was something they were born with, that couldn’t be helped!
How quaint, they still pretend to be for tolerance
lol....rimshot
