Our military strength (what’s left of it) should be spent removing invaders from the US and securing our southern border. Otherwise, we’ll have a majority Mexican population in some areas which will be justified in demanding self determination.

So you think all that you suggested will let Russia back down? Your kidding. The point is, in both instances, they were over matched by superior military but their will, determination and guile made them overcome that. Same applies today. All that you suggested does not guarantee victory, as Russia may be inferior to the US militarily but they sure ain't no mouse and can handle themselves competently. If we were to do what you suggest that would sure start WW3 and then we all lose.
