Roughly 1,800 New Jersey children had their insurance plans cancelled last week due to Obamacare.
With the flurry of cancellation notices hitting mailboxes across the Garden State, one parent, Bob Miotla, told the NJ.com news of his son's cancellation made him "extremely angry."
"Without having that safety net, if an illness arises, we will probably take him to the ER," said Miotla, who is on Medicare and disabled.
Obamacare's new mandated requirements killed New Jersey's low-cost children's insurance coverage plan, FamilyCare Advantage. The plan, offered by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, was designed for children whose parents make too much money to qualify for Medicaid and offered medical, dental, and vision coverage for just $144 a month. The program, which was the first of its kind in the nation, was implemented six years ago and considered a model for others states seeking economical ways to provide quality coverage for kids from working class families.
Yet, since FamilyCare Advantage lacked things like mental health services, Obamacare deemed the children's 1,800 plans illegal and the program shuttered last week. "This is enormously disappointing, said NJ state Sen. Joseph Vitale (D) who co-sponsored the bill that created the program. "It was $5 for doctor visits, $1 for pharmacy and no deductible or cost sharing."
The Obamacare plan offered by the same insurance provider has a $1,500 minimum deductible. Vitale told NJ.com that most families whose children were covered will be ineligible for taxpayer-funded federal Obamacare subsidies because "they earned too much money."
The 1,800 New Jersey children join the five million other Americans who also had their plans canceled by Obamacare. A new study by the RAND Corporation reportedly finds that nearly one million people whose plans were canceled by Obamacare still remain uninsured, a figure Democrats previously claimed...

We need to shout this from the housetops!
Obama hates the “Chilrun”
Obama hates the Chilrun
No, "Obama, Reid and Pelosi want your children to die!" is the message that should be trumpeted.
I am sure that the idea was to replace the state children’s insurance with another state plan that was available from the exchanges. That is what they did in WA. They started earlier, though. WA state sent out letters to all Medicaid recipients that said that Medicaid was being wrapped into the new Apple Care State insurance program through the insurance exchange.
So, essentially, not only did Obama’s numbers cover all regular and expanded Medicaid enrollees, but they also counted the children separately from their parents.
Harry Reid responded with “You’re all a bunch of #%#$##$ liars!!!”
Well there you have it, it was the rich families bleeding the system dry.
True.
Before and After Birth.
Just another example of the democrat “war on children.”
If they had read it they would have known what was in it.
Someone ask Harry Reid if these people are lying.
Well, Jim, you know these people are all liars - just ask Harry Reid.
It just occurred to me that since a democrat introduced the bill in NJ six years ago, Obama will use his pen to fix this by changing the law.
With the flurry of cancellation notices hitting mailboxes across the Garden State, one parent, Bob Miotla, told the NJ.com news of his son's cancellation made him "extremely angry."
Mr. Miotla is a liar --Harry Reid
Mr. Miotla liked his plan and his doctors but he couldn’t keep them and his healthcare will be quite unaffordable now. So who’s truly the liar — Harry (the booty) scReid?
Restore Health Care — Repeal Obamacare.
Thanks JimRob.
Harry Reid hates children, too. In fact, all Reid cares about is Reid. Obama, Pelosi, and Biden are also in politics for personal gain. None of them give a rat’s whisker about the poor, children, women, minorities, or any of the other groups they claim to help. Hyporcrites, liars, and crooks, all of them.
Apple Health in Washington State always was Medicaid.
The recent change, besides the Expansion of Medicaid, is that Apple Health is now administered by Washington Healthplanfinder, not DSHS.
Yep.
Apple Health was created for the Obamacare exchange. If you go to the WAState.gove web site for HCA, they explain how they are wrapping the children’ s Medicaid program into the Obamacare exchange and adding the adult Medicaid to Apple Care as well. If you recall, WA State made a lot of the moves toward Obamacare before the deadline, so that even if the ACA law was declared unconstitutional, WA State would still have moved a considerable way toward the same type of program.
There was a major problem last December when WA State realized that most of the traditional Medcaid recipients did not know that they had to renew their Medicaid by signing up on the Obamacare exchange.
No, that isn't correct. I am a court-appointed guardian for a number of children. Their insurance (actually Medicaid) has been called Washington Apple Health for many years. You can do a search right now and find references from the 90s.
Beginning in February 2009, Washington began enrolling children with family incomes up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL) in its new Apple Health for Kids program. The implementation of this expansion is only the most recent phase of a comprehensive effort to cover all children that began over 2 years ago when Governor Chris Gregoire signed
Also, the traditional Medicaid/Apple Health renewals are staggered. For example, some of these kids will renew on May 1st. They can do it (actually me) either by paper form or on the exchange. The change is that DSHS has no involvement in it anymore.
The name, Apple Health, may have kkbeen used in the nineties, but it was certainly notbpartbofvthe Obamacare exchange.
If you go to the government web site, you will see the changesmthatvwere made to make it part of the ACA. I would imagine that the income limits were expanded, as well. The tables now go up to close to $90,000 per year for 5 children.
