(KIEV, Ukraine) Crowds of pro-Russian demonstrators stormed government buildings Sunday in two major cities in eastern Ukraine, where secessionist sentiment has sparked frequent protests since Ukraine’s Russia-friendly president was ousted in February.
In Luhansk, 30 kilometers (20 miles) west of the Russian border, hundreds of people surrounded the local headquarters of the security service and later scaled the facade to plant a Russian flag on the roof.
In Donetsk, to the southwest, a large group of people surged into the provincial government building and smashed windows. A gathering of several hundred, many of them waving Russian flags, then listened to speeches delivered from a balcony emblazoned with a banner reading “Donetsk Republic.”
Eastern Ukraine was the heartland of support for Viktor Yanukovych, the president who fled to Russia in February after months of protests. About half of the region’s residents are ethnic Russians, many of whom believe Ukraine’s acting authorities are Ukrainian nationalists who will oppress Russians.
Ukraine’s interim authorities deny they are infringing the rights of the ethnic Russian population and accuse Moscow of trying to sow instability. Russia has moved large contingents of troops to areas near the Ukrainian border, and speculation is strong that unrest in eastern Ukraine could be used as a pretext for a Russian incursion.

If a few thousand Mexicans got together and protested in Corpus Christi, demanding that it be given back to Mexico completely, you would support the US govetnment just rolling over?
Its typical Russian tactics, those arwas only have a sizeable Russian presence because Stalin killed off or “moved” many of the native Ukrainian inhabitants.
Russia is continuing to bombard that lart of Ukraine with propaganda, scaring people senseless, making them think evil Nazi zombies are coming to their homes to eat their children...and if that doesnt work? Then that the Jews are coming to steal their jobs.
They look like the Obama babe type crowds we would see in the this country.
Oh come on , Russian military is tattooed on their foreheads
Where did I say that?
Could it be that the Obama regime is rolling over for criminal illegal alien Mexicans in the US, and we should defeat the criminal Obama agenda here? AND, we should defeat the criminal Obama agenda in Ukraine and the Nazi criminals he has hired and supports there as well?
LOL! I think that *is* Alex Jones.
Notice no flags?
There were similar pictures from the early Maidan, in December 2013.
Pro-Russian demonstrators were very peaceful when they attacked a small group of pro-Ukrainian protesters in Donetsk and killed one man. Real Russian heroes those were

Looks like some old school communist agitProp....agitation and propaganda. Vlad Putin is reviving this
Stop reading conspiracy websites pumping Russian propaganda. My uncle was out on the Maidan, you know who was there with him? Average Ukrainians, students, blue collar workers....etc, people who were sick of the lies and the brutality and the corruption. It was a peaceful movement until the secret police were unleashed on the people...then they began to fight back.
Now Putin is doing everything he can to create unrest and have a pretext for invading other parts of Ukraine. Its not a big deal because as he admitted to President Bush, he sees Ukraine more as a Russian state than an independent country.
All this takk about Nazis is purely ridiculous. Did the movement draw some extremists? Sure, like the hockey riots in Vancouver drew anarchists, people who love chaos.
But if you know about fascists and Nazis in Europe, they strongly favor Russia. Ukraines own fascist groups are seen as black sheep because they are virulently anti Russia.
But Russia draws the fascists, as they did to the referendum in Crimea. Russian sentiment is strongly anri Semitic, that sentiment is openly expressed in public life, in mainstream newspapers. You can say all sorts of things about Jews there that might get you in hot water in the European nations which tend to be a litgle intolerant of that sorr of thing.
In short people supporting Rusdia in this are supporting a very repressive, authoritarian, anti-semitic, anti freedom entity while still having the gall to continue posting on a website which explicity supports freedom and liberty.
Bandera-ites hate Poles more than Russians.
“Bandera-ites?” The 1940s want their rhetoric back. As someone with Polish and Ukrainian family who spends a lot of time in both countries, i honestly have no idea what you are referring to currently.
If the extremist groups such as Right Sector, they are all more anti-Russian than anything else.
In terms of Western Ukraine, there are very close ties to Poland that even Stalin couldnt destroy. It makes sense why when looking for propaganda, Russian media wenr to film the busy border crossing between Poland and Ukraine to claim that it was a video of “Ukrainians escaping into Southern Russia to avoid persecution.
1940's rhetoric, eh?
Spetznaz in unmarked uniforms again?
According to Kremlin's (they should rename it Gremlin by the way) divide and conquer tactic.
Yeah, like when the Ukrainians stormed the Ukrainian buildings in their country. Putin didn’t appreciate that when they finally kicked out his puppet.
“Federal solution?” You sure speak the Putin party line as quickly as it is announced, comrade.
Another George Soros plot, for sure, comrade Putinista.
I forgot that you own Free Republic determine whom should post her.
What exactly is that picture doing to support your claim? Bandera is a controversial figure in Ukraine, he was a strong force for Ukrainian freedom and liberation, he also did a lot of unsavory things. He is seen as a symbol of Ukrainian independence, if that us your basis for claiming that Ukrainians hate Poles, then you are grasping at straws.
Then again what would I know, my family is only from both countries and my Ukrainian aunt did seem to point her fork menacingly at my Polish grandfather during dinner....perhaps you are right....
