President Obama shifts focus to economy

The Senate on Monday is set to approve legislation that would provide unemployment benefits to people who lost it when the funding expired at the end of last year.

House Republican leaders are not expected to hold a vote on the bill, after raising concerns about paying the unemployed retroactively. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has also said the measure doesn’t include a job creation provision.

The administration has been urging an increase in the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour as part of a broader populist pitch by Democrats.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has been working on a deal to raise the wage, but it may not be as large of a hike as the administration is demanding. President Obama will host two events on the economy this week as Democrats seek to pivot the political discussion away from the healthcare law.

Democrats dispute that that the healthcare law will be a liability for the party in this year’s elections, and celebrated the news last week that ObamaCare enrollments topped 7 million.

Still, they argue that jobs and the economy will be the central battleground in November.

“That’s the debate that the election will be about, jobs and the budget,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said last week.

Obama will be hosting two events on the economy this week. On Monday, he will travel to Prince Georges County, Md. to host an event on the economy, and will follow that up with another event Tuesday at the White House.

The renewed focus on the economy comes on the heels of new figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released Friday, that suggested the U.S. is rebounding after a tough winter. In March, 192,000 jobs were added and the unemployment rate remained at 6.7 percent.

I certainly hope that you are right. But the gullibility of the low-information voter combined with the complicity of the sycophantic media makes this by no means a sure thing.

Last evening I had the distinct displeasure of running into Mr Democrap at a party. After he determined in conversation I was not a dem, he began his diatrob starting with how can you people persist in saying that one can live on minimum wage. Immediately that told me the messaging has gone out from the dem central committee this is going to be a big issue NOW. I just said I worked for minimum wage for 5 years during college and I managed to get by and stand here now 50 years later. Then he switched off to the Koch (his word Coke) Brothers. He said it was immoral they spend so much money on conservative causes. I said, well, do you feel the same way about Soros who supports lefty causes? He is even a convicted felon, the KOCH brothers are not. Lastly, don’t equate the GOP with conservatives either. I am the latter as I believe them to be also. The last one unhinged him and he walked away.

These people are beyond help and we have no way of ever convincing them otherwise.

President Obama Shifts Focus to Economy

Yes, there are a few areas of the economy that are recovering (despite his leadership) and he’s figured out a way to screw those sectors up

You said...
“These people are beyond help and we have no way of ever convincing them otherwise.”

That's because people like that individual only deal in the emotions. That has been the underlying principle behind progressivism for decades. They tend to have a child like view

Yes, you are correct, they have a child like view. In their minds their ideas are like a solid, no matter how much force you exert on it, the sphere does not change shape, just directon. If you try to express to them that a push on one side of baloon deforms the baloon sphere along with changing its direction they just don’t get it. They think in simple terms, put more money into the system, everyone gets richer. They never see that pushing more script into the wage system has far broader effects than simply putting more script in the hands of employees i.e. raising prices, causing further wage inflation or losing businesses to foreign competition. Dodos, every one of them.

The renewed focus on the economy comes on the heels of new figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released Friday, that suggested the U.S. is rebounding after a tough winter.

Paving the way for an announcement just before elections that unemployment is down to 5.2%. A made up number like the Obamacare enrollees but since Obama will make that proclamation from the WH Vegetable Garden, it will be official and the 'mericuns will sing praises of the greatest ___________________ to ever occupy the oval office.

President Obama has no effect on the economy other than to inhibit it.
