If you get trapped on a mountain during a blizzard, I think they often charge you a pretty penny after they rescue you.
I imagine that people who decide to sail around the world probably have a fair amount of money. That's nice.

Hopefully, the price tag of this rescue will make any future effort too expensive for their depleted bank account.

Yep. Let the full costs be covered by them. If there’s a market for it and doesn’t prove prohibitive, people will start taking out ‘rescue insurance’ so they don’t end up bankrupt.
