Oprah Winfreys OWN cable network is developing a two-part miniseries chronicling one of the ugliest and least-known chapters in U.S. history.
In Tulsa, Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer (The Help) plays a journalist who investigates the 1921 Oklahoma race riots, where an estimated 300 people were believed to have been murdered amid post-WWI racial tension surrounding segregation laws and the prosperous black community of Greenwood. According to a 2011 New York Times story on the subject, The Tulsa race riot of 1921 was rarely mentioned in history books, classrooms or even in private an episode so brutal that this city, in a bout of collective amnesia that extended more than a half-century, simply chose to forget it ever happened.
The announcement came as part of OWNs Thursday upfront, revealing the nets next slate of programming which also included the networks first scripted movie, My Name is Love: The Darlene Love Story. The period biopic will star Toni Braxton....

When I lived in Tulsa, I knew a Black man who was a witness to the incident. He was coming to Tulsa from Muskogee and was warned about what was happening. He delayed his entrance to Tulsa until it was mostly over.
From what he told me I think the 300 number was probably correct or even understated. There was a lot of White victims too. He said they even used airplanes and strafed and dropped “turpentine bombs” on them.
I am unsure who was ultimately at fault but I tend to think the Blacks were more so. At the least they were equally to blame.
I am continuously amazed that white America cannot accept that blacks resent whites and probably even hate them. The words of the so called black leaders, the actions of the knockout gamer’s and the mall store looters scream resentment and hatred.Black resentment and/or hatred must be accepted; then and only then can it be dealt with.
I’ve heard the Oprah network is carried on very few cable systems. It’s possible she won’t get wide exposure for what she wants to do here. It seems clear she wants to highlight allegedly racist acts from the past, for whatever reasons she has.
Why does she want to highlight a race riot? Why does everything she does, including movies she herself has acted in, have to touch somehow on race relations?????
And the rape statistics are even more “disparate” (since Hussein likes that word)-app 100 black on white rapes per day on average (including elderly women, 70yo and above), who are often beaten/tortured/murdered into the bargain, while app 10 or less, on average, white on black rapes.
And never mind all the false accusations against white men by black women, like the Duke lacrosse team, for which the perpetrator of the false accusation is hardly ever prosecuted, and certainly never berated in the msm.
Wrong! Your "Black Man" was lying. See my post earlier in this thread. As is the norm today, whites were victimized by blacks. It's true in 2014 and was true 93 years ago in Tulsa.
FWIW the Blowprah network is in 79 million US homes out of a total of 114 million with cable/sat.
Awwwww Jeez Edith .....
It really happened.

It happened in Arkansas a few years earlier. When I was a kid I heard old folks talking about Elaine, Arkansas.

When will it be on, so I can make plans watching grass grow.
Why did Robert Byrd just pop into my mind?

well then Oprah has potential wide exposure then.
Get ready for liberals promoting this via guilt trip techniques. Get ready for Oprah to do interviews when this movie is ready. Get ready for a big dose of, well, things have changed, but how much have they changed, look at what happened all those years ago, could it happen again, is there still residual racism, the whole 9 yards.
The knockout game is hardly new. The May 1921 riots in Tulsa began in much the same way with an attack on a defenseless 17-year old girl, an orphan no less, by a black thug, "Diamond Dick" Rowland. Then a squad of heavily-armed black goons stormed central Tulsa and murdered an innocent white onlooker.
Those are the facts that have been overlooked by the state-run media and won't come to light in the upcoming racist television special.

In the meantime the news of the threatened lynching reached the colored settlement where Tulsas 15,000 colored citizens lived. Remembering how a white man had been lynched after being taken from the same jail where the colored boy was now confined, they feared that Rowland was in danger. A group of colored men telephoned the sheriff and proffered their services in protecting the jail from attack. The sheriff told them that they would be called upon if needed. About nine oclock that night a crowd of white men gathered around the jail, numbering about 400 according to Sheriff McCullough. At 9:15 [p.m.] the report reached Little Africa that the mob had stormed the jail. A crowd of twenty-five armed Negroes set out immediately, but on reaching the jail found the report untrue. The sheriff talked with them, assured them that the boy would not be harmed, and urged them to return to their homes. They left, later returning, 75 strong. The sheriff persuaded them to leave. As they complied, a white man attempted to disarm one of the colored men. A shot was fired, and thenin the words of the sheriffall hell broke loose. There was a fusillade of shots from both sides and twelve men fell deadtwo of them colored, ten white. The fighting continued until midnight when the colored men, greatly outnumbered, were forced back to their section of the town. The lopsided casualty numbers, 2 blacks, 10 whites, indicates to me that the 75 armed blacks were facing an almost unarmed crowd of whites when they opened fire.
At that point, it was ON.
There is one other thing they don’t talk about today. Back then blacks had their own communities, businesses, etc and liked it that way.
In my view, Blowprah is the #1 reason that Baraq Obama won the election in 2008.
Back then Blowprah had huge network exposure and a LOT of credibility with women. She pimped him relentlessly. I’m sure the Chicago mob considers her a saint.
Most black children were in 2 parent families then also.
The Great Society demolished that concept.
Now we have reaped the horrible effects of this.
Thank you for the additional education. These are the things which ignored, thrown down the memory hole, when the history of “black opression” is being told.
