A city board on Thursday gave a Muslim group the go-ahead to remove six crosses from the roof and spires of a century-old former Catholic church so the now-vacant Gothic structure can be used as a mosque.
More than 200 people had signed an online petition calling on the Syracuse Landmark Preservation Board to deny an application by North Side Learning Center, the churchs new owner, to remove the crosses and build a six-foot chain-link fence.

Don’t blame the Muslims. America is turning into a post-Christian society. Its because Americans aren’t religious, not because Muslims are buying churches. If the church was full of parishoners, this wouldn’t happen. We are doing it to ourselves.
Think Article 3 section 3.
You’re forgetting the “convicted...on the Testimony of two Witnesses” part of that section.
Yes, agreed, it’s theirs...and the Church should be ashamed of itself for being unable to keep the parish going and having to sell it in the first place.
That said, I don’t think the sellers realized that it was going to be used as a mosque. Apparently this group posed as a sort welfare and educational organization working with Middle Eastern immigrants. As soon as they got the building, however, they announced that they in turn had sold it for use as a mosque.

Is it recognized as a “historic” structure?
Could be problems there.
One hopes...
Mosque = Forward Operating Base
Exactly. Attend church and this won’t happen.

Not forgetting. There’s also “Confession in Open Court”.
The people in Syracuse confessed in open court? I must have missed that.
Does the Catholic Church base church closure/consolidation solely on attendance? The church was open until 2010, which suggests there was attendance.
The church might have been; after all, it closed only four years ago.
There have been parishes consolidated where I live, but no churches closed thus far. Certainly none being planned to sell to any mosque-builders who have a symbolic point to make.
This is not about the “people in Syracuse”. Are you aware of what the concept of “ummah” entails?
No doubt they’ll smash the stained glass windows.
Can you imagine what they would do to Christians that desecrated a mosque in order to convert it to a church in an Islamic country? I think Jesus wanted us keeping our faith in our hearts as opposed to the temples anyways but, regardless of that, I’m still pretty uncomfortable with Islamic crusaders spreading their influence in America.
I agree. They bought it - it’s theirs...
Try cutting a crescent off a former mosque (if you can find one) and watch the nice Muslims go ape-s*** over it.
