Sports broadcaster Bob Costas is not backing down in the face of criticism for his outspoken advocacy of gun control. In fact, hes challenging his critics to a bet.
Costas was asked about the controversial political positions he has taken on the air, including gun control, in an interview with Late Night host Seth Meyers, and said its very much an issue in sports that deserves to be talked about.
Heres what I would say to anybody who any time they hear the word guns automatically goes off, like, Oh, theyre going to repeal the Second Amendment, Costas said. Lets make a bet, you and me. Lets say over the next five years well do a Google search. Well have an independent party monitor it. You keep track of how many good and constructive things are associated with athletes having a gun, and Ill keep track of all the tragedies and criminality and folly. And lets see who comes out ahead or behind as the case may be.
Costas said regardless of Americans positions on gun control generally, its undeniable that sports has a gun culture.

I agree that athletes and rappers should be exempted from the second ammendment.
Mr. Costas is an idiot. Winning his bet would prove absolutely... nothing.
In my sixty plus years, I have only read of one case in the local rag where a common citizen brandished a firearm to chase away intruders. Some years ago an area woman noticed a bunch of scruffy teens on her rural property. She came out the door with a shotgun in her hands, and the kids quickly vamoosed. It turned out the teens (eventually caught) had been vandalizing/stealing from vacant, rural homes.
That is the only time I can remember the rag publishing a story like that. Stories in other parts of the country with citizens defending themselves with firearms are never printed. The average reader is led to believe that firearms are only used in the commission of crimes or accidental deaths, especially of children. They want you to believe that no common person has ever successfully defended themselves with a firearm.
Lets make a bet, you and me. Lets say over the next five years well do a Google search. Well have an independent party monitor it. You keep track of how many good and constructive things are associated with athletes having girlfriends, fast cars, alcohol, 'medicine,' groupies, money, sex organs, publicity, bling, mouths, interviews, opinions, cameras, influence, phones, videos, motorcycles, big houses, celebrity friends, vacations, fists, muscles, and dogs, and Ill keep track of all the tragedies and criminality and folly. And lets see who comes out ahead or behind as the case may be.
Not all athletes are thugs. I would take Bob up on that bet as long as he considers hunting a “positive” use of a gun. And, I bet none of them have had any negative experiences, the cases of Aaron Hernandez or Rae Carruth are rare indeed.
How would we know? The MSM refuses to print stories that suggest that a gun saved the day.
I can’t stand seeing his pinkeye or his pink anything on tv.
He’s a typical lib POS.
