NATO's foreign ministers ordered an end to civilian and military cooperation with Russia on Tuesday and told their generals and admirals to quickly figure out ways to better protect alliance members that feel threatened by Vladimir Putin's Kremlin.
The 28-member alliance, the keystone of U.S. and European security since the end of World War II, was reacting to its most serious crisis in years: Russia's unilateral annexation of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula, which the U.S. and its allies have condemned as an illegal land grab.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and the other ministers, meeting at NATO headquarters in Brussels behind closed doors, unanimously agreed Tuesday on a number of measures.

-- The possible deployment and reinforcement of military assets in eastern NATO members, such as Poland and the Baltic states, that feel menaced by Moscow's latest actions.
---- A possible increase of readiness levels for the NATO rapid response force.
---- A possible review of NATO's crisis response plans, as well as its military training and exercise schedules.
Oh Russia’s quaking in their boots now.
Obama can’t stand Putin one-upping him. Why does this feel like Obama trying to “Butch-up”?
Over-reaction by weak leaders has been the cause of many wars in human history.
Is Obama even involved in this? I think the eastern edge of NATO is nervous.
How is that “overreaction”? Should they continue cooperating with aggressor?
One has to wonder why it is still being said we are sending russia money and arms? Is this a lie?
Because it is an invitation to Russia to cut off NASA cooperation, meaning we have no way to get to the ISS, that we paid/are paying for, as well as cutting off the main supply rout to Afghanistan.
IMO, this may force Putin to ratchet things up, as well.

German FM says “I don’t see any way which would allow Ukraine to become a member of NATO”
Like they ever had any.................
Yes, it is said America is Wanted ... Mostly Dead.
What is “Butch-up?” and why do you know about it?
Russia has Zero fear of Europe. And Russia now has Zero fear of USA, either, given the Obama/Kerry farce ... and the amazingly rapid decay of our morals and culture in the last 4 or 5 years especially ... (something Putin is very conscious, and critical, of)....

Yes, obama plays with a loaded obamacare on this the back of Americans. Ready to thank a democrat yet?
It is. It’s very nervous. For them, it’s a real fear. But these former Soviet colonies are disdained for wanting to be free and independent. The benighted Putinsita goober brigade on FReeRepublic think that all issues are about Obama and their beloved Putin.
Yes, bad medicine ...
NATO is a relic of the Cold War and a crippled Europe. Now Europe is recovered, united, and needs to be responsible for itself. The United States is in an entangling alliance that it needs to get out of pronto.
Doing this on the anniversary of Nato’s intervention in Serbia, a former Russian client, is a double slap in the face to Russia, and won’t change the situation on the ground at all.
I see it as an unnecessary escalation, while doing the REAL things that would cost Russia in the long-term, like developing the US’s own energy resources, are too politically-incorrect to even consider for these people.
When I see the Belgians, or the Dutch moving troops into Estonia or Lithuania, I might start considering NATO (meaning Obama) to be serious. Until then, this is just posturing, and useless escalation.
Yes, this bed of roses has thorns. Is okay.
And Russian’s not invited to the yacht club’s Easter party either...
