Beating expectations, President Barack Obama's health care overhaul was on track to sign up more than 7 million Americans for health insurance on deadline day Monday, government officials told The Associated Press.
The 7 million target, thought to be out of reach by most experts, was in sight on a day that saw surging consumer interest as well as vexing computer glitches that slowed sign-ups on the HealthCare.gov website.
Two government officials confirmed the milestone, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter ahead of an official announcement.
Seven million was the original target set by the Congressional Budget Office for enrollment in taxpayer-subsidized private health insurance through new online markets created under Obama's signature legislation.
That was scaled back to 6 million after the disastrous launch of HealthCare.gov last fall. Several state-run websites also had crippling problems.
Americans who rushed to apply for health insurance Monday faced long, frustrating waits and a new spate of website ills on deadline day.

They are also including the prison population, Mexican nationals and vets forced off tri-care into Obamacare.
How interesting that National Obamacare Day will be celebrated on the day before April Fools Day.

The pathetic rollout of obamacare was fun to make fun of, but was never one of the main reasons to oppose this awful law. The MSM and democrats want to point at these enrollment numbers as a refutation of those who opposed the bill. I expect that they will be successful in swaying a good portion of the brain dead American electorate.

Yeah, and I signed up for your deathcare. What? You can’t find it? Well I signed up and I paid. I can’t help it if you lost the check along with my enrollment. Go ask your contracted company or the secretary of HHS to find it or cough up the money from personal funds.

I have no idea where my doctor got his figures but he recently told me that 90 something percent of the sign ups in California did not pay their 2nd mnths premium.
I don’t know why anybody who thought they could NOT HIT 7 million would ever be considered an “expert”. There are 6 million people at least who LOST THEIR INSURANCE, and while many could get other private insurance, some could not, and these people were highly motivated to get their insurance back.
And there are 40 million uninsured, some of whom could not afford insurance, and now they were being offered FREE STUFF. Why would fewer than 25% be expected to take advantage of other people’s money?
The amazing thing is how a week ago, the administration had no idea how many people were signed up, but within minutes of the deadline, they knew exactly how many. Surprising, if you are stupid enough to believe this administration.
Funny how the media is willing to accept an entirely new measurement of success, built off of the disastrous startup by this administration.
Obama and his minions are very good at “changing the narrative”, playing down to expectations, and getting the media to lie for them.
The key for republicans is to emphasizes the REAL PROBLEMS with the bill itself, not the temporary problems with the incompetence of the administration:
To wit, the illegal changing of the law by Obama to avoid political pain; the huge price increases for large numbers of people; the people who lost the health care they liked, and are forced into Obama’s version of health insurance either through a private insurer or the exchanges; The illegal IRS attempt to charge tax and provide subsidies in states where the states have rejected this; the unfunded expansion of medicare; the use of medicare and medicaid money to fund the ACA; the trashing of Medicare Advantage which many seniors used; and the fact that 3 years into the ACA, a vast majority of the uninsured are STILL uninsured.
His statements were not errors or omissions. They were blatant lies and he knew they were lies. There were internal arguments with his staff about telling the truth. Truth lost and the lies won.
Do not tell me the numbers, “SHOW ME THE NUMBERS” of paid accounts and their demographic breakdown as certified by a reputable CPA.
I am quite confident that the numbers they are touting are lies. Obama has not hesitated to lie about Health Care, or Gun Running to Mexico, or Benghazi etc. WHY SHOULD ANYONE (excepting the lap dog media) BELIEVE HIM NOW.

So, basically, this Administration is crowing about signing up an average of a little better than 1 million a month for the past 6 months? In a nation of over 300 million people?!
And I find it humorous that they also claim a mad rush in the last few hours of up to a million sign-ups, when the website has always crashed with only a fraction of that much traffic.
I could sell the American people dog shit by mail IF I could fine them 1% of their gross income either this year or next... AND have the ability to stick the IRS on them.
Maybe democrats and their butt boys in the MSM could brag about MORE people signing up if they put out word they would shoot people who didn’t sign up...

The 7 million was always about people signing up on the website. The 3 million did not sign up on the website.
Obama started using the 9 million number a few weeks ago...lying as always.
A huge number of the signups WERE eligible. Although the liars will not tell you that.
