Beating expectations, President Barack Obama's health care overhaul was on track to sign up more than 7 million Americans for health insurance on deadline day Monday, government officials told The Associated Press.
The 7 million target, thought to be out of reach by most experts, was in sight on a day that saw surging consumer interest as well as vexing computer glitches that slowed sign-ups on the HealthCare.gov website.
Two government officials confirmed the milestone, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter ahead of an official announcement.
Seven million was the original target set by the Congressional Budget Office for enrollment in taxpayer-subsidized private health insurance through new online markets created under Obama's signature legislation.
That was scaled back to 6 million after the disastrous launch of HealthCare.gov last fall. Several state-run websites also had crippling problems.
Americans who rushed to apply for health insurance Monday faced long, frustrating waits and a new spate of website ills on deadline day.

unreal.
7 million. Out of 300,000,000. Big whoop.
And how many LOST their insurance?
FUBO
Exactly as I predicted....
I don’t believe this either. They are counting people put on medicaid which they were already eligible for, the people who lost insurance and went to the exchange to try and find insurance. After all is said and done my bet is that maybe 2 million got onto the covet exchange who weren’t insured before
Dear Associated Press: I just quarterbacked my team to a Super Bowl win. I pitched a perfect game in the World Series. I won the Olympic 100 meters. I made $1M on the stock market.
Reprinting the obvious lies of 'government officials' doesn't automatically render them true.
Your lack of human, to say nothing of journalistic, skepticism is shameful. The government MAGICALLY meets their own enrollment threshold MAGICALLY on the deadline and you find nothing questionable about it.
so now are we going to see the media celebrate Obamacare sign up week? Similar to how we had gay marriage week when the president evolved into support for homosexual marriage???
It’s fun to remove zeroes from numbers to get a feeling for what the numbers mean.
In this case it means seven out of over 300. And we don’t know how many of those seven have made so much as a first payment, i.e. we don’t know if they “really” have insurance.
Meanwhile, I no longer have health insurance, as of Jan. of this year. Too expensive. It is a rich man’s luxury now.
Beating expectations
The lie-machine is going into overdrive. Democrats cannot lose this November and all their cadre are called to action.
I pray for a Tet “victory”.
Bulletin: Government officials say the moon is made of green cheese. From God's mouth to the AP's ear.
This isn’t even Propaganda any more. This goes beyond that: Slavishly lavishing fellatio on the Communist In Chief and his income-redistribution plan.
The Lie will Snowball big time now ,they must think they will remain in office FOREVER
and it is amazing the GM story hit just as the Obamacare deadline flopped
They are not journalists. They are paid Propagandists, only. They have no skepticism; they lie, they love to lie, you know they lie, they are happy you know.
How many lost their insurance due to Obamacare and had to buy through the government website? How many are Medicaid (welfare) that were already receiving it and renewed? How many have paid? How many illegals?
Details, details...
How many illegals have been signed up? Here in San Antonio, there was a line for people to ‘’sign in’’ The liberals that were there bragging about how wonderful it was to get health care for so many people tried desperately to ignore the massive amount of people who had waited on line for over an hour + and receive zero zip zilch nada information. They just gave a phone # and hear..........NEXT. My assessment is that it is a major bogus victory for the lame duck.
All of this crap for 2.2% of the U.S. population.
The people getting on Medicaid under Obamacare were not previously eligible. Obamacare EXPANDED Medicaid ... meaning it relaxed eligibility requirements so that vastly more people now qualify for it than previously. They also got rid of the asset test.
At least half of the projected “newly insured” were to come from expanding Medicaid. This was part of the law.
I don’t have insurance and have no intent of helping these idiots pump up their numbers.
