The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a light earthquake occurred at 06:34 AM on March 30, 2014 (MDT). The epicenter of the magnitude 4.8 shock was located 4 miles north-northeast of Norris Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. This earthquake is part of a series of earthquakes that began in this area on Thursday, March 27. As of 8:15 am today, this series has included at least 25 earthquakes in addition to the main shock, with the largest of magnitude 3.1. The magnitude 4.8 main shock was reported felt in Yellowstone National Park and in the towns of West Yellowstone and Gardiner, Montana.
Today's event is the largest earthquake at Yellowstone since February 22, 1980, and occurred near the center of a region of recent ground uplift described in a YVO Information Statement on February 18, 2014. The Yellowstone Volcano Observatory has been tracking this uplift episode for about 7 months.

It’s not the same idea with earthquakes along fault lines versus earthquakes from magma movement. I’ll use Mt. St. Helens as an example, since I was there at the time.
Just like in Yellowstone, Mt. St. Helens has period explosive events. With Yellowstone it takes longer to fill up the magma chamber to turn into an explosive event - than it does at Mt. St. Helens. SO ... when St. Helens started showing a series of earthquakes, scientists took notice, because that indicated the movement of magma within the area (inside the mountain). And in that situation it WAS NOT A GOOD SIGN!
The question was, at the time - whether it was going to be a limited amount of movement and then stop and go away - or if it would continue.
To continue with the series of small earthquakes would be a VERY BAD SIGN. But, for the earthquakes to cease and the mountain to “go quiet” would be a VERY GOOD SIGN.
Well, with Mt. St. Helens ... it didn’t’ stop and the small earthquakes continued. I could feel them in Portland, Oregon, even though the mountain was in the State of Washington. And when the mountain started DEFORMING by FEET PER DAY ... that was a really really bad sign, in conjunction with those small earthquakes. That meant it was going to an ERUPTION!
Therefore in this case, the series of small earthquakes is BAD! The stopping of the small earthquakes is GOOD. That’s the EXACT OPPOSITE of what people would say in California, you see. But, that’s the way it is with earthquakes associated with the movement of magma.
I hopes that explains that many small earthquakes, along with the deformation of the ground - is something VERY BAD!

Yeah, those were the likely causes the last time it blew 600,000 years ago.
Certainly something to keep an eye on. Because if it does erupt with full force, then it could affect a lot of Americans.
My theory is based on the pressure being distributed over time versus all at once. The underlying activity is important. It depends on why there are no earthquakes. Is it because it is building up? Adding and accumulating? Or is the underlying activity slowing down.

In this context earthquakes are related to the movement of magma. No earthquakes = no movement of magma = good.
On the other hand, the existence of these earthquakes = movement of magma = bad.
Now Yellowstome has a lot longer time period between eruptions, so the movement of magma can continue for a very long time before it’s finally filled up to “exploding time”.
We would prefer NO EARTHQUAKES in Yellowstone, as the perfect state of being. However, that doesn’t look like the cessation of earthquakes is going to be the situation - and thus - we are BUILDING UP (by all these earthquakes) to the BIG EXPLOSION.

Actually in all seriousness there is some who believe that a weakening sun can lead to greater tectonic activity. Over the last few years the sun has been becoming very quiet. Huummm?

Reading an earthquake related article where residents described pictures, mirrors and heavy items, etc., falling off the walls sending shards of glass at them.
Seems a good practice would be to not have items hanging on the walls and sitting up high in known earthquake prone homes.

Actually he WON the nationwide popular vote. Only the electoral college system and a tiny margin of a few hundred in Florida saved us from an Al Gore presidency. No matter what you may think of George W. Bush it is hard to imagine any way that Gore could have been anything other than far worse. Every time someone tells me that we should have a popular vote presidential election I cringe at the thought.
That’s about one every eight hours, 45 minutes and 36 seconds. Two and three quarter earthquakes per day.
