Florida Alert! Video of Florida Sheriffs Association Opposition to Right to Bear Arms
NRA ^ | 29 Mar 2014

Below is a link to a youtube video of some of the Testimony before the Florida House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, March 17, 2014. It shows the Florida Sheriffs Association OPEN OPPOSITION to your right to carry your firearms with you during a mandatory evacuation under a declared state of emergency.

Further, despite words of the Founding Fathers in the Second Amendment, it is their opinion that you only have a "right" to own firearms and not a "right" to bear firearms.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qogTYo4mPuo

Under the video screen you will see heading that says, "Published on Mar 28, 2014" and a short narrative. At the bottom of the narrative there is an option that says "Show more." Be sure to click on that "Show more" option to read the rest of the narrative.

The bill is HB-209 Firearms During Mandatory Evacuations by Representative Heather Fitzenhagen and others. Click Here to Read the Bill. The final vote on the bill by the House Judiciary Committee was 17-1. Committee members, ALL 12 Republicans and 5 of 6 Democrats stood up for YOUR rights.

If you want to watch the complete House Judiciary Committee hearing on this bill, along with questions and debate by Legislators who are members of the committee, click here and at the bottom of the screen and in time bar, move it to 1:40:00 to start the hearing on this bill.

No surprise here. It seems sheriffs are about 50-50 for/against the right to keep and bear arms, based on the ones I have talked to and have given talks to our local militia organization. Oh, no, the NSA is coming to my house now!

Sp, politicians with badges care more about kissing the asses of their bosses more than protecting the God-given rights of the people they supposedly serve. What a surprise.

It figures that the Sheriff’s spokeswoman who carried the apposition message reminds of the mayonnaise-coiffed DWS.

I believe, Grady Judd, who is the President of the FSA, is opposed to his brethren on this, and has said so in the past. (from lack of total recall)

The concept of them "serving the people" has gone the way of the DoDo bird. They no longer hide the fact that the people are slaves of the Government and that they are their overseers. If you lived in South Florida and walked up to a cop in North Florida, his attitude toward you would be that he would not piss in your mouth if your guts were on fire, Ditto with vice versa.

Years ago you could carry on a conversation with a cop under the same circumstances. The change is that they no longer consider you an equal. If you do not happen to be a cop, then you are just another criminal in their eyes.

Here’s a recent statement from the FSA on HB-209 ‘clarifying’ their position:

Florida Sheriffs Association
March 28 · Edited
We have received correspondence today from several FSA members about some inaccurate information surrounding our position on HB 209 and the Second Amendment.

The Florida Sheriffs Association fully supports the Second Amendment rights of Florida’s citizens, and we affirm our ongoing support for Florida’s citizens to responsibly own firearms.

HB 209 authorizes those *without* concealed weapons permits to carry concealed on their person during a mandatory evacuation order. We believe that citizens that have gone through the concealed weapons permit process have the right to carry concealed and we believe that privilege should be protected for those individuals. If passed, it will be the first time Florida law authorizes someone without a permit to carry concealed.

Florida already has laws in place that authorize ANY lawful gun owner to transport their weapons in a car or public conveyance, therefore this legislation is unnecessary. If you have a concealed weapons permit then you can absolutely carry concealed and we support that. If you do not have a concealed weapons permit you can still take your guns with you in your car or on public transport—as long as they are securely encased and not readily accessible. We support this reasonable application of current law.

They are getting slammed with negative comments following the statement.

No surprise here. Who helped with the disappearing of Terri Schiavo? Sheriff Everett Rice Pinellas County. This is Terri’s Day commemorating March 31, 2005. Now everyone can see how they are. We already knew...

In my county, the sheriff is at least an elected official. Trouble is, nowadays there’s too much of an influx of Yankees, and it’s polluting the vote.

You have to love it. In denying their bias, their 'reasoning' displays it all the more.

Exactly. In one sentence they call bearing arms a right but it's a privilege ...

"We believe that citizens that have gone through the concealed weapons permit process have the right to carry concealed and we believe that privilege should be protected for those individuals."

Which is it, FSA, a right or a privelige?

Everett Rice retired as Sheriff to run the legislature. He did that to vote against Terri’s life but memories fade but I think that’s what happened. I believe eventually, he LOST re-election. He also lost his bid to be Sheriff again.

Law enforcement?

That is the problem with ALL government employees! Local, state and federal.

They do what they are told rather than what is right or legal or constitutional.

Or, they get fired!

Boy that sounds familiar.

I’ve been through those before, there are NO cops around and the phones are likely overloaded.

A couple years ago my house was broken into. I arrived shortly after the cops and told them there were guns in the house as they went in to clear it.

Short time later they asked me to check the guns. One cop asked me how many I had. Not in a friendly sort of way.
