New York Times reporter James Risen called the Obama administration the greatest enemy of press freedom that we have encountered in at least a generation on Friday, explaining that the White House seeks to control the flow of information and those that refuse to play along will be punished.
Poynter reports that Risen made the remarks while speaking at Sources and Secrets conference a meeting of journalism and communication professionals held in New York City. The foreign policy reporter, who is currently fighting a fierce court battle with the federal government over his protection of a confidential source, warned that press freedom is under serious attack in todays America.
In a speech kicking off the conference, Risen claimed that the Obama administration wants to narrow the field of national security reporting and create a path for accepted reporting. Those who stray from that path, he cautioned, will be punished.
The result is a de facto Official Secrets Act, Risen explained, making the current White House the greatest enemy of press freedom that we have encountered in at least a generation. And the media has been too timid in pushing back against the onslaught.

The MSM media owns Obama. This guy can choke on it.
Statement corrected.
If he’s lost the Times.....
You bought it, learn to love it.
1992 - The Clinton Administration will be the most Ethical Administration in history
2008 - The Obama Administration will be the most Transparent Administration in history
Anyone notice a pattern emerging here?
soooo,
one in ten thousand in the news media that isn’t up this magic negros ass?
If the worm doesn't turn soon McGruff there won't be a free press... or a free country. Thank God someone at the New York Times is catching on... there's a few at the Washington Post... some other scattered around the country. Not enough, but a start.
Elite liberals have to get past the color of Obama's skin and see who he really is...Obama's Nixon on speed - he's not Kunta Kinte...he might even be Stalin...
And there is the Mooch over there in China telling them that questioning leaders is a must or something like that. What a gigantic hypocrite.
What are the odds that James Risen voted for the POS?
I’d say 100%
The folks at Poynter don’t have forever to figure this one out... Thank God for men like Risen...
From the above link:
The administrations aggressive prosecutions have created a de facto Official Secrets Act, Risen said, and the media has been too timid in responding.
Toobin appeared on a panel that followed, moderated by Times Supreme Court reporter Adam Liptak, who announced that if he werent a paragon of journalistic detachment, hed say the persecution of James Risen is a scandal. The attorney Laura Handman noted that the U.S. Department of Justices new guidelines for accessing journalists records carve out a big space for the government to decide what constitutes ordinary newsgathering
Gearing up for Hillary!?
Took long enough!
Thanks McGruff. Risen was (or is?) fighting to keep a source confidential regarding US espionage activity against an Iranian nuclear plant — so guess what?
Make Journalists Testify
The press is wrong to demand a reporters privilege for James Risen.

But it is not a problem when they do it. Ask Mrs. Obama. It is the Chinese who have to fix their press freedom, America wouldn’t care less.
You think he’ll be Breitbarted?
Why are they crying. They got what they prayed for. Let them enjoy him.
If only various people pointed out these potential issues, and the NYT reported on it before 08, maybe we wouldn’t be stuck in this mess. Nah, it was the eeeevil racist Tea Party types who pointed it out, so it had no merit.
