Well you do stay the same person. If God said to doff your Christian hat upon taking the hate of some worldly cheese, then we’d never have the Hobby Lobby case. They’d have quietly capitulated.
That said, many “discernment Christians” really go overboard and filth those who disagree, using dodgy theology. It’s sad when two Christian houses call a pox on one another.

Its sad when two Christian houses call a pox on one another.
But it has been like that pretty much all along, hasn't it? These days, many church members' understandings reflect fear of the world (system) and what harm might happen to them, and how best to protect themselves and their families from all perceived hurts that may come.
I've found it best to count myself dead to the world (system), while observing its rules and regs as well as I can, and considering myself already crucified, dead, and risen with Jesus Christ. His struggles with pain, embarrassments, humiliations, and feeling of abandonment on the cross are far weightier that any discomforts I've experienced or could experience.
