GOP Contenders Better Take Note of Rand Paul' s Strategery

RUSH: Rand Paul went to Berkeley yesterday, last night. Rand Paul got a standing O from the students at the University of California-Berkeley. Do you know the issue that he hit on that they just jumped out of their seats and applauded him on was the government spying on the citizens? He came out firmly against it, highly critical of it, and they couldn't be quiet.

They were just cheering him like Republicans don't get cheered on college campi. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Rand Paul "delivered a scathing rebuke to the US intelligence community Wednesday, calling it 'drunk with power.' 'I don't know about you, but I'm worried,' the Kentucky senator told 400 people who filled a hall at UC Berkeley's International House. 'If the CIA is spying on Congress, who exactly can or will stop them?'"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vFhXpfEfQg

Reporters talked to the students after the speech, and they just thought it was one of the greatest that they had heard anybody make at Berkeley. Now, he said other things, but that issue of spying, I happen to have seen this reported elsewhere. I've seen it on my tech blogs. These young people that just slavishly support Obama and global warming and every cockamamie idea, when it comes to this NSA business, it's the one area there's not even any confusion about it.

I mean, they're a little confused that Obama would do it, but there is no middle ground on it. They universally oppose it, and they can't blame Republicans for it. I think we get an indication here how Rand Paul's gonna run his campaign. He's gonna go to groups of people, and he's gonna talk about, as a Republican, the things important to them. He's gonna identify whatever it is important. Like to these students, he knew it was spying.

He went to the belly of the beast, UC Berkeley. He's been to Howard University, which is an all-black university. I think other Republican contenders had better take note of what he's doing, 'cause it's very abundantly clear to me what his strategy is. He'll go talk to Hispanics, and whatever he identifies as the issue that gets them out of their seats, he'll talk about.

I don't know what it would be, but he will have one. It might be immigration/amnesty. Who knows? I have no idea. But he obviously knew that the Millennials/college students want no part of this spying. I mean, they're all really tech savvy, and they understand the depths to which the spying is possible. You know, keep a sharp eye.

“Not a single one of these kids will ever vote for Paul, or any Republican”

If you are right then the war is already lost.

These “kids” will be the ones voting and deciding elections in the years to come. The traditional republican base is getting smaller after each cycle. It simply cannot deliver the necessary electoral votes anymore.

I agree with Rand.....

But young people votes are barely worth mining given their turnout

The best vote mining ore is the 35-50 white middle class pays taxes vote

No question.....it takes a 10% shift in black or Latino vote to equal a 1% shift there

The path to Vick Toree

This would be great if he were taking our conservative message to them.

Instead, Rand Paul is trying to build the political political support needed so that he can defeat conservatism within the GOP and make it a rino/libertarian party, and totally eliminate the Reagan wing.

Hint: A Constitutionally restrained federal government IS a conservative message.

What other politician is bringing up the fact that the government is completely out of control to leftist college kids and is actually getting their applause because it resonates with them (probably because they have never heard such a message before)?

That’s right. No one.

I despise Paul’s flippity floppity behavior when it comes to the topic of illegal immigrants but saying Paul isn’t delivering a conservative message — that being a Constitutionally restrained federal government — where no other politician dares to go is denying what lies at the heart of conservatism: Liberty.

Does anybody remember a Republican convention where someone took a Ronald Reagan signed and sat on it? He didn’t become the nominee that year. They said he was too radical. And Jimmy Carter became the president.

How good is your memory?

That was the year that Ayn Rand was doing everything she could to keep Reagan out of the White House, she despised his conservatism and supported the social liberal Ford, in 1980 the libertarians had their greatest election ever, trying to defeat Reagan.

Ayn Rand on the 1976 GOP race: ""I urge you, as emphatically as I can, not to support the candidacy of Ronald Reagan. I urge you not to work for or advocate his nomination, and not to vote for him."" she also would not vote for, or support him in 1980.

Exactly.
I used to see this crowd in the bay area back in2008.
They were DU/ Occupy crazies who used Ron Paul to attend and trash all Gop events.

Rand supports K Street Mitchy in Ky because he hired a relative and Amnesty too.

Totally meaningless….as far as prez politics is concerned. A Fools errand.

Disagree. For Republicans, California is never about votes in the general election. It's about campaign contributions, especially during primary season. He may have helped himself a lot in that respect. Time will tell.

Social liberalism and gay marriage and wanting to move the GOP party platform left, are NOT a conservative message.

Gay marriage and social liberalism at the federal level are big government, not small government, and Paul is running for federal office.

Calling for the GOP to rewrite it’s platform dropping fundamental elements of conservatism and coming out against the conservative base, is not conservative.

You didn’t ask me, but I’ll answer.

NO. I would not vote FOR Paul. I would however vote against Hillary - even if that means voting for Paul.

There is a difference here, and the DOP-es AT THE GOP-e don’t get it. They keep selecting losers to run and its no surprise that conservatives are staying home on election day.

Yes she mocked libertarians for their goofiness, and she despised Reagan for his conservatism, two different things.

Rand truly and passionately despised Reagan and conservatism.
