Lets talk about leggings, shall we? Theyre a controversial topic all across America.
Now the debates landed in Evanston, Illinois, at Haven Middle School.
I think Ive heard most arguments about leggings: Theyre too distracting to the boys. Inappropriate. Unbecoming. They create a lustful atmosphere infecting society and are, in some countries, considered illegal.
And while I particularly love this Utah moms approach to lighten the mood, I doubt this writer smiled as she wrote about the controversy.
Earlier this week, I learned that Haven Middle School students are planning a protest against a ban on leggings. A Haven parent forwarded this email, sent to Haven Middle School principal Kathy Roberson on Tuesday, March 11th:
Personally, I think this ban is ridiculous. Its obnoxious. Its insulting. Its lazy and its offensive.
I have a middle school daughter. She and her friends wear leggings. And yoga pants. And clothes that dont always please me. Am I a bad mother for letting my daughter out of the house wearing a shirt that doesnt cover her bottom? Possibly. Does it confound me when young men walk around wearing pants around their knees or when a therapist wears a purple streak in her hair or when a teacher wears a diamond stud in her nose? It does, but only because those arent my styles and its my issue, not theirs.
What kind of confusing message are we sending to girls especially young girls who see public figures (including the First Lady) wearing leggings and yoga pants and whose parents are usually the ones purchasing the clothes and whose male counterparts arent told how to dress their bodies but only what not to wear on them? Give me a break.

A young boy goes to Confession.
“Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I have been with a loose girl.”
The priest asks, “Is that you, little Joey Pagano?”
“Yes, Father, it is.”
“And who was the girl you were with?”
“I can’t tell you, Father. I don’t want to ruin her reputation.”
“Well, Joey, I’m sure to find out her name sooner or later so you may as well tell me now. Was it Tina Minetti?”
“I cannot say.”
“Was it Teresa Mazzarelli?”
“I’ll never tell.”
“Was it Nina Capelli?”
“I’m sorry, but I cannot name her.”
“Was it Cathy Piriano?”
“My lips are sealed.”
“Was it Rosa DiAngelo, then?”
“Please, Father! I cannot tell you.”
The priest sighs in frustration. “You’re very tight lipped, and I admire that. But you’ve sinned and have to atone. You cannot be an altar boy now for 4 months. Now you go and behave yourself.”
Joey walks back to his pew, and his friend Franco slides over and whispers, “What’d you get?”
“Four months vacation and five good leads...”
I remember in Jr. High. seeing the Volleyball girls walk around in their shorts and with knee pads around their ankles.
Needless to say, it “distracted” me.
School uniforms are by far the best idea.
Better still...make a schooling commercial or private. Let them make their own rules and tell the government to get lost.
Anyone who thinks healthy teen males aren’t going to notice girls dressed only in colored paint are pretending there isn’t such a thing as a sex drive.
When I was a youngster in school, we had Hot Pants
Droooolll Hot Pants
I’m no longer a boy, yet leggings and yoga pants distract me.
So did “sweater and a real tight skirt,” as the Righteous Brothers sang.
Or mini-skirts, and hot pants. Low tops too.
I have a middle school daughter also and have no idea what the term leggings means.

The next 10 years are going to be quite the education for you. I have a 29 and 22 year old daughters.
You’ll learn things you really could have lived your entire life not knowing.
Leggings are but the start.
Every sane school has some kind of dress code or standards for students. At least since parents stopped having the common sense to know what their daughters should not wear.

Well said.
Schoolgirl sweetie with a classy kinda sassy
little skirt’s climbin’ way up the knee
I remember tight jeans and dolphin shorts from my high school days.
No, I'm actually a guardian and am starting to back away now. Will let others handle the transition into adulthood. I have nothing to contribute at this stage.
Girls in my school had to kneel and their skirt had to hit the floor. My greatest memory was the cheerleader tryouts when the student body had a vote on a couple of members. One of the girls had non-cheerleader well endowed body. She did her routine clearly braless. Every male vote put her on the squad.
I must assume you are a woman — as am I. But males and females are very different despite what the left wants us to pretend. Males, by nature, are driven to visually assess women as possible mates.
This is the reason that even a happily married man will check out the women. It is just the way they are wired. Adolescent boys are dealing with this tendency at the same time that they are dealing with a surge in hormonal activity.
So, yes, having girls parading around dressed provocatively is quite distracting to the learning experience. And, unfortunately, we have parents today who do not have the sense and/or the decency to have their daughters dress in a modest fashion.
Distracted is GOOD !!
Do you require the males in your life to have shirts that cover their bottoms ?

Surely you know the difference between males and females at this point. If a boy’s bottom is not covered, it is doubtful that some woman is ogling it and having impure thoughts. If a girl has her posterior covered in something that fits like spray paint there will be lots of male ogling. Why any parent would want some man looking at his or her daughter like that is beyond me.
My son runs track so we go to a lot of track meets. You get used to it after a while.
That picture looks like an 80s nightmare.
Also sensible Oxford shoes. Loafers are dragging down the republic.
Young girls/women dress in as little as possible. I think that this is nothing new in the grand scheme of things.
They are in their prime “breeding years” physiologically speaking, and add to that their new found sexuality. So, the way to attract mates is to reveal as much of themselves as is necessary to obtain that mate. I am not speaking of this in terms other than in basic biology and that unspoken need/desire to propagate the species.
Since men are visual creatures when it comes to mate selection at a any age, the revealing clothing to be expected.
You can call them tramps, harlots, etc. It is not poor upbringing, it is more base than that. I knew many girls who would leave the house in “approved” clothing only to change in the girls room into something that would make the boys fawn over them and get them grounded if caught. Doesn’t make them whores per se, but biologically normal in keeping with their present station in life.
It is difficult to for us as older adults to understand this, but I can guaran-damned-tee you that when we were teenagers we were diggin’ it.
I was in an airport waiting for a flight a few months ago, and a young woman was waiting for the same flight as well, either with grandma or mom, wearing a pair of “yoga” pants. She had “the goods” to put in them and it was hard not to stare as she very pretty. She could easily have been my daughter by age. The whole point of wearing them was to attract attention to herself and everyone did notice her, you couldn’t help not to.
Too distracting for grown men too
The beach is a more appropriate time for coochie freedom
These girls got a whole lifetime to flaunt sexuality
God love em
