UPDATE, 12:07 p.m. ET: Russian forces are reportedly pushing back the press at the scene:
Ukrainian troops said Tuesday that they were being attacked by Russian forces at a base in Crimeas main city, Simferopol, the Interfax news agency reported, according to Reuters.
One Ukrainian serviceman has been wounded in the neck and collarbone. Now we have barricaded ourselves on the second floor. The headquarters has been taken and the commander has been taken. They want us to put down our arms but we do not intend to surrender, a military spokesperson reportedly said.
We are being stormed. Share: We are being stormed. We have about 20 people here and about 10 to 15 others, including women, an unidentified serviceman told Fifth Channel television, according to Reuters. One of our officers was wounded during the attack, grazed in the neck and arm.
This is a developing news story. Updates will be added.
And being driven out of town in no way constitutes a resignation, anymore than when the British burned down Washington and the US government had to flee did it mean they had resigned.
Until the proper method for removing him from office has been completely followed he is still the acting commander n chief of the Ukraine armed forces.
I have never agreed with Obama on anything and I’m not about to start now.
Hey, I got an idea. Why don’t we mind our own business?
Hell of a deal. Now lets deal with Obama, dems and RINOs.
Other stuff comes after we take care of our own business.
You said, "We (NATO) set the precedent so the Germans could get access to the Adriatic." That is pure nonsense. How did you come up with such a theory?
He publicly announced his resignation and later recanted after pressure by the Russians.

Tell that to the Parliament, which removed him.

The Parliament of Ukraine sees it much differently. And the armed forces do not accept him as the Commander in Chief. He has no authority.
What is this “sovereign nation” concept you’re referring to? The one that Putin violated few weeks ago when he sent Russian troops into Ukrainian Crimea?
Good old Stockdale. Perot’s running mate.
I became a Dennis Miller fan after he staunchly defended Stockdale....
“Now I know [Stockdale’s name has] become a buzzword in this culture for doddering old man, but let’s look at the record, folks. The guy was the first guy in and the last guy out of Vietnam, a war that many Americans, including our present President, did not want to dirty their hands with. The reason he had to turn his hearing aid on at that debate is because those f***ing animals knocked his eardrums out when he wouldn’t spill his guts. He teaches philosophy at Stanford University, he’s a brilliant, sensitive, courageous man. And yet he committed the one unpardonable sin in our culture: he was bad on television.”
Same treaty allows Russian military troops to occupy Crimean parliament and administration buildings?
This is ridiculous, can’t believe I’m even replying to this nonsense
That’s kind of how I feel. I don’t really like what Putin’s done. OTOH, whatever Obama’s positions is on something, I figure it can’t be good for us.
The Putinistas are waiting with baited breath for Putin to bomb Kiev as payback for Belgrade/Kosovo/whatever. Sad to see some people treating this like a spectator sport. Sad to see those sentiments on FR. This is real and there is a strong likelihood that a lot of people are about to die in Ukraine.
If I could go back a hundred years, I’d tell the Austrians that no matter what happened to their Archduke, fighting over it wasn’t going to end well.
Now, I feel like no matter what Putin does, his re-uniting Russia and the Ukraine (oddly split in the first place, imho), isn’t worth WWIII.
Because many people here seem to be against the democratic elected government of the Ukraine, and want to support a coup with ties to a neo Nazi group.
They should have left when they had a chance...
“May lots of Russian soldiers, policemen, secret policemen, like Putin, be killed in Ukraine. Kill them anyway you can and avenge all the wrongs the Russians have inflicted on Ukraine in the centuries, all the millions starved to death by Stalin and his secret police that Putin worked for and is still a member of.”
Your sick... Reach out for help.
give me a link to his statement where he resigned.
and then give me a link to the article that states that the proper constitutional method has been followed in full to remove a sitting prime minister.
and after you cant find either (which you wont) you will then know that technically he is still the Prime Minister, and his orders must be followed by the military under his direct command.
With the current resident of the White Hut, the current _resident of the United States? Yes! Overwhelmingly, Yes!
We are very close to outright hostilities that can spread very quickly with disastrous effects for all of us.
you will then know that technically he is still the Prime Minister, and his orders must be followed by the military under his direct command.
Technically the Prime Minister? Get your facts straight. The Prime Minister and the rest of the government already submitted their resignations to President Yanukovych prior to Parliament accepting his de facto resignation, i.e., he ran away from his office. New elections will be held on May 25.
If the military was supposed to follow his orders, why didn't they defend him? I watch RT daily. You are spouting Russian propaganda. The Russians have no business being in Crimea any more than Hitler did in the Sudetenland or the Japanese in Manchuria when they set up the puppet state of Manchukuo.
What's next? Estonia with 40% ethnic Russians or Moldova?
What if the Confederate States of America decide that Ft. Sumter is part of Southern territory and take steps to reclaim it? Ah, yes, we know how that went...
