MURRAY, Ky. (AP) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry threw his support behind U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell on Saturday, telling 300 fellow Republicans that the minority leader will win re-election.

McConnell finds himself in a GOP primary fight with wealthy businessman Matt Bevin, who attended the event but wasn’t allowed to speak.

“Perry will never again get any majority of TEA Party support for any campaign.”

Nor will Rand Paul, I assume. Because Rand Paul also endorsed McConnell. So who will the self-appointed TEA Party folks run against Rand Paul for the other KY U.S. Senate in 2016?

Some forget Rick Perry’s courageous stance on Texas congressional redistricting several years ago. When the Democrats fled the state to deny a quorum, Perry kept calling one special session after another until he finally wore the Democrats down. The resulting map gave the nation Louie Gohmert, Ted Poe, Randy Neugebaur, Bill Flores and others (and took down Martin Frost, Chet Edwards, Nick Lampson and others). It would have been far more politically expedient to throw in the towel, but to his credit he held firm in the face of unrelenting media criticism. I will always be appreciative of the political courage he demonstrated in that episode.

I’ve never had any doubt that Perry was GOPe, but he proves it clearly with this endorsement.

His conservative speech making and I emphasize speech making in recent years was political ploy and his run for president in 2012 probably a calculation to split votes and help Romney.

Now the fake conservative credibility Perry built up is being spent to save Mitch McConnell’s political backside.

95 PERCENT OF ELECTED REPUBLICANS EITHER FAKE CONSERVATISM OR REPUDIATE IT.....

If the TEA Party voters are paying attention, Rand Paul's voter support could go back to the 2% enjoyed by his dear old dad for so many years.

If Perry had his way, those folks wouldn’t have been elected but his mission for the GOP as would be the mission for any GOP politician in any state would be to draw the congressional district lines so Republicans win the most seats.

Perry did it for the Republican Party, not the TEA PARTY.....

Paul endorsed McConnell to get his support for getting that law changed in KY so he could run for both senate and president.

Perry has no reason to support McConnell. But Perry supported Dewhurst too.

Perry’s probably trying to get future endorsements for president.

Unfortunately, this is how it works.

Perry has always been a mixed bag, and here is more proof. That has kept me from whole-heartedly supporting a Perry presidential run.

Well, Sarah supported McInsane’s re-election. Where does that leave Palin fans?

*************

Yes it took until 2003 to get the districts set which gave the
GOP a 21 - 11 majority for the first time since reconstruction.
It wasn’t until 2006 that the final court case was settled.

Establishment Republicans stick together. Sometimes insanely so. You never know when, in the past, McConnell endorsed or campaigned for Perry so a “debt” was owed.

Still can’t forget Palin endorsing McCain again for the Senate.
