What happens at 2 hundret?
At one point, the originator of this thread was decrying the fact that it used to get a large number of posts each Sunday, but recently wasn’t able to get even a hundred.
So I let Ross Perot use my account to kinda boost up the activity.
Thanks for your 777 information, very good “inside baseball” stuff.
INVESTIGATION OF FAULT DETECTION AND ANALYSIS METHODS FOR CENTRAL MAINTENANCE SYSTEMS (I'm too lazy to convert from all caps!) has a block diagram, on page 4, of the 777 system. Notice the separation between "system busses" (and data) and "flight control busses".
IIRC, I read that Rolls Royce subscribes to obtain real-time data on the engines that go in a 777, regardless of the (real time data) choice made by the airline. The Reuters article says otherwise, that NO data channel was opened.
I am pretty sure that this "aircraft performance" data does not include geographical position (other than elevation), just because position data is supposed to be independently obtained, etc. The general function of the CMC and similar systems is to keep an eye on the aircraft's health, independent of where it is located.
Also of interest in Fig 1 is the data access terminal in the cockpit. It indicates that the crew has access to the data that is downlinked. Just interesting. Doesn’t have any bearing on our discussion.
Yes, that goes back to your original point. The operator of the Irridium constellation of satellites should know which "spots" were taking pings from this aircraft, and what time, etc. These should be SOME data as to geographical location, even if no aircraft performace data was transmitted in real time.
Supposedly, Osama bin Laden was targeted at Tora Bora from satellite phone locating ... the exact same process of knowing which satellites (and which "spots" on each satellite) were "pinged" and at what time would at least roughly locate the pinger.
I feel bad about hogging up the Sunday Morning thread with mostly "non-political" chatter! Oh well. Things happen.
Like I said. Anyone reading these posts will not be able to watch the LSM media anymore when they start talking about the missing 777. Have a good day.
I figure everybody reading this thread is wise to the press. If the press gets something right, it's by accident. Not that press accounts are useless, they at least provide contentions that can be independently researched. I learned some things today about Boeing's AHM, ACARS and the aircraft monitoring systems on a 777, no thanks to the press.
-- Have a good day. --
You too. Nice to make your acquaintance.
Didn’t you receive your 200 trophy? Must have got lost in the Indian ocean?
Rock lobster was 200. I was 201. He got the trophy.
He retired in 1992. His last position was Director of Operations 21st Space Wing Cheyenne Mountain. They still live in Colorado Springs.
Thanks Robert. I am reading and learning as it becomes available but I’m no expert nor do I want to be. To be honest, your comments and many of the responses have been fantastic for information, and proving once again how poorly Old Media is and has been for reporting news.
That was all before the Great Guilliani purge of 2008, and I still miss our old friends above, plus Miss Marple and Pukin Dog.
I'm not bitter—all good things must come to an end, but still, those were the DAYS!
“>> Lincoln had to go through a number of Generals before the North won their war of aggression Abolitionist/Republicans freed the slaves from the murdering democRATs. <<”
Rocklobster - not to disappoint you too much, but the Abolitionist/Republicans DID NOT freed the slaves from the murdering democRATs.
Who goes to Inner city public schools? How many of these graduate? How many are not married, how many have their babies aborted?
The “democRATs.” have their own little army to let loose when needed. You may need to be prepared for that eventuality. A.K.A. Freddy’s Mart in N.Y. I do not remember how many people (Jews) were burned to death
I remember those days too. Fun times and fond memories. I wonder if many of those people got new names and lurk on occasion? I know one or two that do. Still, the interaction is missed and I wish they were still posting.
Hello alas babylon. I love year weekly post. The main problem as I see it is John McCain and his elk. Whenever I see one of these guys on TV I usually scream at the TV, find the remote, and hit the off button.
Hello Morgan. It was fun researching these systems and sharing what I found with other interested folks. Glad you got something out of it.
Most of the original slaves were held against their will.
The current ones are slaves by choice.
Back in those days, there was much infighting and flame throwing regarding the second Bush.
