There is no relationship between the song and the book, which was not written in 1967. “Fifty Shades of Gray” is a totally different animal, or mineral, or vegetable.

The Language of Love got a lot of airplay on KWIZ, Orange County's "oldies" blaster, in the late 1960's.
Loudermilk also wrote "Indian Reservation, a hit for Don Fardon and Paul Revere & the Raiders. In 1971, while the Raiders' version was riding the charts, a version sung by Loudermilk himself was played on KERL, a small station at 1370 kilocycles out in Corona that could be picked up in my area. This must have been on a demo or transcription disc. I haven't heard it since. Anyway, here's an early version of the song:

Good evening, Maestro! I was a second semester Freshman at the University of Maryland. I remember tooling down University Blvd. on my motorcycle to school every morning - directly into the sun, and my, the winds did blow - brrrr!
Thanks very much for this evening's Rockumentary!

I figured that. I just wondered if maybe they got the idea for
the title from this little song.
Prolly not, huh.

#8 Hermans Hermits: Theres a Kind of Hush
#8 Hermans Hermits: No Milk TodayThese two songs were released separately in the UK but were combined for the American release. The first is a fine effort, but the second was a masterpiece by Graham Gouldman, whose songbook I covered a few years ago. This was before 10cc and during the days when Gouldman was writing mostly for the Hollies.

#51 The Platters: With This RingThere were a number of bands who were calling themselves the Platters in those days, and one of them landed Luther Dixon as producer. Dixon was responsible for the success of the Shirelles at Flo Greenbergs Scepter Records in the Brill Building, and he left Scepter to go to Hollywood. This was his greatest success in L.A.

How odd. I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song before! Of
course, at this time I was out of the country and probably
missed a lot of tunes from the era.
