I wasnt saying that the country would have been worse off. I am referring to the political fortunes of the republican party. If mccain had been elected, I imagine he would have carried on his backstabbing of his fellow republicans. I think he would have been a one termer and taken the republican party down with him and the democrats would gave emerged much stronger as a result.

The US would probably also be in a couple more ‘foreign contingencies’, maybe one with Russia and maybe heavily involved on the ground in Syria. John m has never seen a foreign imbroglio that he doesn't think can be improved by US forces being involved. It is some sort of psychological compensation for his POW experience.
