The batteries should be dead. If the phones are underwater they wouldn’t be working, either. But this has happened to more than a dozen families; they place a call to a cell phone, someone picks up the call and then disconnects.

Just because you place a call and hear a ring doesn't mean the phone is actually ringing. Telcos will send ring tone to the caller just to assure them that they are still trying to connect. On successful calls, it's common for the callee to have heard fewer rings than the caller. This is because the telco played one or more rings to the caller before they managed to locate the callee's phone.

As for someone picking up and hanging up, that I hadn't heard. I'd expect at least an "All your PAX are belong to us" or such. What should happen if the callee's phone can't be located is to play a message to that effect and then transfer to voice mail.

You must be trolling. You really think oil rigs don’t house skilled workers from all over the globe?

‘From how far on the surface should you be able to see a plane fire at altitude? ‘

It is 30 miles to the horizon.

“Whats the location at this present moment?”

I don’t know. They must move those things around. You site lists a date of Feb 2013. I don’t see a date on the site I found.

Look, the obvious question starts long before the flight took off. Who boarded the plane? Two Iranians using false passports board the flight. Does this story seem familiar? They suddenly, and without any explanation show up a the residence of a former Tehran school hum. He has no idea why they are there but doesn’t ask questions and agrees to drive them to the airport. He overhears seemingly secret conversations with a mysterious MrAli? Does this seem familiar? So the number one sponsor of terrorism in the world boards two Iranians on FALSE passports. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Your interpretation of it, however, was dead-nuts on.

Then I apologize for my intended derogatory comment towards you.......

Be careful, there are lots of tin foil hatters here who will argue about TWA 800.

Oil rig workers come from all over the world based on experience. Many of the foreign platforms hire them because they don’t have enough people with the “right” credentials.

Maybe, maybe not. Only one worker saw it? That seems odd. Heck, it *ALL* seems odd at best.

Good investigative work!

This whole thing is one confusing story after another.

Yes, that’s pretty obvious. But there may be another cause.

Chinese satellite images seem to have found the wreckage in the Strait of Malacca:

Tests on a similar plane showed that the center fuel tanks get MUCH hotter than expected. TWA 800 sat on the runway for an hour longer due to being a “life flight”, i.e., transporting human organs to a European hospital. On Westbound flights, the center fuel tanks aren’t filled, leading to a more dangerous amount of fumes.

Years ago I saw a missile in the night sky. I thought it was 20 miles away. In the morning I read in the paper that it was over 300 miles away. Where there are no surface lights you can see great distances.
