An elderly woman violated her probation by leaving bread crumbs out in her yard for crows and will remain behind bars.
Eighty-one-year-old Mary Musselman was first arrested last month for feeding bears in her backyard. One of the bears was euthanized over it because the Fish and Wildlife Service said the bears might learn not to be afraid of people anymore and then get aggressive.
The judge in the case warned Musselman not to feed any more wild animals of any kind:
A judge gave her probation at the time, and made it clear: Do it again, and go to jail. She did, was arrested in January, and the case ignited controversy when Musselman was held without bond.

That. Would. Be. Awesome.
“Man with mutant peglegged Lovebird destroys downtown, film at *door to studio caves in, huge bird shriek is heard, studio crew gets beak smashed by mutant lovebird*”
According to the article (it or the link is posted there for reference), she has dementia and her husband is also ill - and now living alone because some idiot thinks she should be locked up.
“If she attracts bears in that area, the bears may get over their fear of people and then start attacking folks or destroying their property.”
Oh, for sure. There’s thousands of examples of bears attacking people because they ate bread crumbs. I’m sure you won’t have a problem giving us a dozen or so examples of bears eating people because they associated bread crumbs with yummy human arms and legs.
I can hardly wait...
“What are you in for?”
“Feeding the birds. How ‘bout you?”
“Giving a cop the bird.”
That’ll do it.
There are bears in Florida?
She yells “Peaches! BEEAK!”
The only lovebird I’ve run across that says such a thing, almost clear, and right before you receive said beak.
Anywhere there are Florida orange groves. The Sebring area is home to highway signs with the text: "Bear Crossing".
“bread crumbs will attract bears’
For sure, man. Bear hunters never take out piles of meat scrap guts to attract bears. They use Jewish rye bread crumbs with caraway seeds. If that doesn’t work, they pay Chabad-Lubavitch rabbis to track bears.
Actually, she does.
Read my post. She doesn’t belong in jail. Is that so difficult to understand? I did not offer an opinion her bird feeding.
Yep, lots of them and the numbers are growing rapidly.
If Bill Clinton could quibble about the meaning of "is," I think it would be arguable that birds are not animals. Animals are furry creatures that go on four feet.
Where do these bears that hang out in her neighborhood eat when she is not feeding them?
I read your post.
My post asked does she belong in a neighborhood drawing bears to that neighborhood by feeding them.
The answer to my question is no, she doesn’t.
Quite frankly, if she did this in my neighborhood and had refused to stop after being asked, I’d be just fine with her being in jail.
I’d rather not be eaten by a bear while I’m walking my dog or cutting my grass.
Y’know, when a judge tells you not to do something? Whether or not you disagree with it, it’s probably best not to do it. My dad always had a saying, “Judges are God in their courtroom.”, usually followed by a pretty good story of a surgeon who didn’t understand that.
Poor old lady, especially if she does have the dementia, but my sympathy is a bit low on this one.
