Mystery Malaysia flight may have been hundreds of miles off course (CNN Breaking)

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was hundreds of miles off course, traveling in the opposite direction from its original destination and had stopped sending identifying transponder codes before it disappeared, a senior Malaysian Air Force official told CNN Tuesday.

If correct, these are ominous signs that could call into question whether someone in the cockpit might have deliberately steered the plane away from its intended destination, a former U.S. aviation investigator said.

"This kind of deviation in course is simply inexplicable," said Paul Goelz, former managing director of the National Transportation Safety Board.

(snip) The Malaysian Air Force lost track of the plane over Pulau Perak, a tiny island in the Straits of Malacca -- many hundreds of miles from the usual flight path for aircraft traveling between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing, the official said.

Does the standard F/A-18 have jamming capabilities? Would radar or other electronic emissions from an F/A-18’s nose cone jam the flight’s communications?

One F/A-18 and a pilot-turned-terrorist is all it would take.

Hmmm..Why not take out a bigger target like a 747 heavy over city, with about 500 on board?

Terrorist like lots of dead...Spectacular stuff.

Over ground would have caused considerable collateral ground damage too.

From what I understand, the jet is worth more than the people!

****From what I understand, the jet is worth more than the people!****

BINGO!!

The pilots were promised asylum, money and new I.D.s in exchange for the Boeing 777. Passengers will be released momentarily.

Praying for their safety.

Weird.

Maybe hijacked plane, headed to do some damage, crew pulled a Todd Beamer and the plane ditched in the ocean.

Passengers will be released momentarily.

More likely, they were all beheaded.

That's close to a third of the way around the world. 7800 miles. 14+ hours. You'd need one of the extended range B777 models for that.

Also, you'd have used up most of your fuel by arrival, so you'd probably want to bring along some extra special cargo to justify the effort. In that case, Tehran might be a better intermediate destination than Mogadishu.

That would be a miraculous outcome, praying for that too.

Problem is, that plane ain’t flyable anymore. Only good for parts.

I just posted something this on another smaller related thread, but it may be worth repeating:

There were 20 employees of Freescale Semiconductor on board (confirmed). I found this article from June 2013 Avionics Intelligence to be interesting in that it provides an overview of how Freescale Seminconductor plays a role in development of hardware for aviation electronics, including technologies related to combat and autonomous aviation.

I'm not arguing that the employees had anything to do with the mystery, I'm just curious whether this connection has already been explored (I have my single opening for conspiracy theories plenty occupied at the moment with other things). There is probably nothing to see here given that Freescale Semiconductor apparently has applications in a broad set of markets ,and I know of no one contending that these employees had anything to do specifically with the avionics applications/market.

Remember in ‘94 when OJ killed Nicole & Ron and there was talk that “one of the satellites pointing to L.A.” might have been able to detect and pinpoint where the white Bronco was at the time of the killings?

Nothing panned out on that (it was a ridiculous analysis), but it makes me think that 20 years later a jumbo jet could easily be detected by a satellite or multiple satellites or even the ISS satellites!

Here’s one for the theory:

“Autonomous aviation “

As in autopilots? ‘Nuff said....

From your post:

“.... Freescale Seminconductor plays a role in development of hardware for aviation electronics, including technologies related to combat and autonomous aviation. ....”

We don’t know whether the plane crashed or landed safely. (777’s cost $300million).

“Apparently most flights are unknowns until approaching American airspace. After this, I bet that changes.”

No.

Flight plans are transmitted in advance. The list of passengers are transmitted in advance to Homeland Security. The aircraft is in contact with air traffic control during the flight.

“It is POSSIBLE the plane was highjacked remotely by computer hackers, and flown off course without the pilots ever suspecting a thing, until it started to land itself, and then they could not take it back from auto-pilot!”

No, that is not possible.

So, anyone heard from Diego Garcia? It is a military facility, the government would be able to keep a airplane attack on a Navy facility quiet, right?
What a scary, freaky story..

I think its also very fishy how everyday they supposedly spot some Debris but immediately they say “Oh it was garbage” last night they were reports of a massive amount of metal debris located and I thought this search was finally over(The families deserve peace) but today not a peep about that..I think the Malaysians know what happened here they are just not saying..or who knows, maybe one of their own shot this plane down
