A Chinese family successfully rang the mobile phone of a passenger on board Malaysia Airlines plane MH370 which is still missing after it lost contact with the ground on Saturday.
A video clip of a man dialing the number of his elder brother was shown on Beijing Television's news bulletin. The call got connected, but no one picked up.
The man, who did not give his name, spoke to reporters at a Malaysia Airlines briefing in Beijing. He claimed that he made a total of three calls, but no one answered.
Desperate family members have asked Malaysia Airlines to use satellite technology to pick up the mobile phone signals of passengers before their phones run out of batteries.
Understand that, but the guy says it rang but no one picked up.
Ya got FRMail
Ah! No, I have an explanation. AIR POCKETS! Unless the plane totally disintegrated, there could be air pockets, in an overhead, etc. Either that or I’d agree with others that it got lost or stolen in Malaysia.

Plane doesn’t even track out of Malaysian airspace.
A 747 super cargo jet landed on a small airport recently.
A skilled and fearless pilot could land one on a beach, on a hacked out section of jungle, as far as ransom, who knows, maybe its just being kept hushed up.
Muslims are involved, anything can happen, if nothing else there is the in flight bomb or the suicide plunge.
Hey, its possible.
If it is in fact ringing then it is on somewhere. Seeing as how it’s been 48+ hours since this all began I’m surprised the battery’s got any charge left unless it’s plugged into something.
You beat me to it.
If the cell system can't locate the dialed phone, the call will go straight to voicemail.
It sounds like that's not happening.
Many people have battery saving smart apps and oversized batteries, I can get more than 3 days out of mine if I needed to. Maybe, just maybe its in luggage that is floating.
True, but the article doesn’t say when he made the calls, it only says it was after the the plane lost contact with ground control.
Wouldn’t they have found floating luggage by now?
Maybe he dialed the wrong number.
Who packs their cellphone in their luggage?
Why not? They did in Air Force One with Harrison Ford.
Of course it will ring and if no answer forward to voicemail.
The person forgot their phone, and left it at home.
